Hardest working program in Chicago. Northwestern is a close second from what I understand. Maybe they are tied with us. Those guys work very very hard as well. However they gots a purty hospital n' fancy cafeteria.

Rush has a great reputation, extremely competent grads, some of the busiest OR's in the city. Cannot comment on the didactics. There is a simulator there which the newer classes are using. Peds at Childrens Memorial. Plenty of hearts, transplants, vascular, and neuro, no outsourcing to meet reqs. Obgyn is more than busy enough.

During interviews the residents looked dog tired but they were friendly and didn't have anything negative to say. Just commented on "we are probably the hardest working program in Chicago." My intuition leads me to believe that if one needs hand holding or is easily rattled by criticism then he/she may be more comfortable elswhere.

You tend to do a lot of ancillary work by yourself it seems. Not a bunch of anesthesia techs running around helping you with all the little annoying things. Funky monitors, stocking carts, getting/cutting tubing (yup), restocking O2 tanks on carts, etc. This adds to the exhaustion and can heighten the feeling of burnout....its cumulative. I'm sure it helps you keep a clean room and stay organized? Anyways, my other beef is that Anes doesn't run the ICU. This may change but I'm not holding my breath.

Never the less its a well respected program in a great city. If you want less strenuous programs and still want to stay in Chicago there are other options. Other than that Rush will serve your career well.

Plus I'll be there 😀
