Just do a little bit of research man. It's just a normal OMFS residency. No you don't have to technically pass Step 1 before residency. But yes you take the CBSE to apply for any OMFS residency... so basically yeah you do. That applies for all omfs programs. If you're in a 6 year you will take step 1 during the residency as you complete your medical school program.
Not talking about the CBSE lol. I read a detailed post about and I quote “Note: Step 1 (Pass/Fail) is taken prior to the start of the program” feel free to search it up hence why I asked.

From what I understand, yes you have to take Step 1 before beginning. As far as I know that is also the case with Case Western and Nebraska. There are probably others as well
So these matched residents start studying spring of their D4 year after match day?
Yes from what i remember is step 1 is taken right before you start residency and you start studying D4 after match

My bad, must have missed that.
My bad I misunderstood. Not very publicized if so, as I live nearby and know oral surgeons who did residency here and none of them mentioned passing step 1 before residency. So these guys are taking it after matching and before matriculating? Seems pretty dumb and redundant to me if so. How are they even registering/taking it?

I don't care about any of these programs bro. If I wanted to go there id obviously research it... but I don't. I'm just curious in passing. If it's so easy to access for those who want to find it why is this even a thread in the first place?
The CBSE is based directly on the USMLE Step 1.
If you can pass the CBSE, you can pass the USMLE Step 1.
If you can pass the CBSE, you can pass the USMLE Step 1.
Also, you would need to do this if you are attending a 6 year MD integrated program.
If you do a 4 year non MD program, there's no reason for you to take the USMLE at all.

Programs have this built in so you can skip didactics in the med school. Rutgers has this so medical school is only like 12-14 months total (all clerkships). Compare this with most other 6 years where you’re doing 20-30 months medical school including some didactics. Seems like a no brainer to me. Rutgers, case, I guess Nebraska
