Hey yall!
Im between these 3 schools with UCD being the graduate entry program (4yr) and RVC and UofG being 5 year programs.
I am wanting to go to Europe for the better work life balance and my partners job so I'm not worried about the change/financial issues with moving countries, besides brexit of course.
I'm mostly hung up on wanting to go to UCD for the 4yr to be the cheaper and less time consuming option, but also am drawn to the UK schools because their ranking is so much higher then UCD. I was talking to a friend who went to graduate school in London (granted a totally different field) and he said that when going abroad its important that employers can recognize the school that you went to, hence that i may need to take ranking into consideration when making a choice. With that, im worried that it will be easier to come back the US if I went to RVC or UofG in regards to job prospects or residencies.
Is anyone a UCD alumni that can speak to coming back to the US after school and that experience?
Thanks in advance!

UCD is an AVMA accredited school and you should have no problem finding jobs in the US if that’s your wish after graduation. I know of several speciality clinics with interns from UCD and since it’s AVMA accredited it is definitely well known.
I can’t speak for UCD itself, but RVC isn’t that prestigious. It’s just a uni and you’ll learn the same things as you would at UCD. The 5 year program is a slog especially if you came from a degree already. It’s two years before you even learn clinical things. And then in third year you are still 100% lectures on clinical things until halfway through 4th year when you start rotations. I wouldn’t worry about the ranking, I’d suggest any AVMA school that’s cheapest.

I highly recommend looking into visa information if you are bringing your partner. If your partner can secure his or her working visa from Ireland, that’s great. Ireland doesn’t grant visa like F-2 (student depends) in US unless you are in PhD program. My information is from last year, so you might want to do some more research.

If I get a Study Visa can my spouse/children join me in Ireland?

UK gov is more open on the visa issue. Both RVC and U of G’s program will allow your partner to apply for dependent visa and eligible to work during your study.
