BUCOM
Pros
  • Closer to support system (grandparents are in Memphis and my parents like in Dallas, so 6-7 hr drive)
  • Affiliated residencies and hospital systems (good rotations) + Admin seems really supportive
  • Network (I have ties to physicians and my grandparents have friends who are physicians at hospitals)
  • Cheaper (45k)
  • Mostly non-mandatory but still some mandatory classes
  • Not OMM heavy

Cons
  • Memphis - I went here a lot on my summers and it is not a desirable place to be (especially as a vegetarian)
  • No established history
  • Graded Preclinical

RVU-CO
Pros
  • Great Match List
  • P/F curriculum
  • Non-Mandatory classes
  • Desirable location - this is the kind of place I want to wish (just don't know how it would be far from home)

Cons
  • Further from support system, a plane ride or 11 hr drive from home in Dallas
  • More expensive
  • idk OMM heaviness here
Summary: Have my deposit at BUCOM, waiting to get off APS for RVU. Want to weigh in others thoughts and opinions on how to think. I'm considering preventive medicine or hem/onc down the line. Also considering NYIT-AR, but idk how to weigh that against these programs, only the health policy opportunities and name stick out to me.
