Hello everyone hoping to get some advice. I am not too knowledgeable about what to look for when deciding between schools so I would appreciate any insight or advice on my situation. For some context, I am a Pakistani-American Muslim born and raised in Arizona.

RVUCOM-SU
Pros
  • Location close to home - similar environment (desert, rocky)
  • My sibling attends this school
  • Match rates
  • Faculty
  • Offers tracks
  • Better support system
  • Pass/Fail

Cons
  • Newer School - Less established
  • For-profit (not sure how big of a deal this is)
  • Rotations seem difficult
  • Lack of Diversity in Utah

PCOM-GA
Pros
  • Well-established (Will the name of PCOM actually benefit me?)
  • Diverse location
  • Better rotations?

Cons
  • Lack of support system
  • Letter Grading system
  • Shared lectures across three campuses
  • Possibly mandatory attendance.

Summary: I am heavily leaning towards RVUCOM-SU due to it being easier on my family. After speaking with students from both schools RVUs students seem much happier and more supported than PCOM-GA. I just want to cover my bases and make sure I make an educated decision, especially with my ignorance about matters such as matching and rotations. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated!

PCOM-GA is more established and they've had more time working through graduating students/scheduling rotations. More diverse location was the 2nd major point that came to mind as you would be able to find a strong Pakistani-American or South Asian community in the nearby area.

If your sibling is at the South Utah campus, that obviously is important though and would be a good support system. Are they a year ahead of you? That would set you up to have deeper insight into approaching classes and rotations while the two of you progress.

Yes, she will start her second year when I start my first.

Definitely go to RVU if your sister goes there. That's huge! She can be a massive resource for you.
