Im in training for a pharmacy tech and they gave me these problems im supposed to practice. could some help me explain how to do these two problems. thanks.

1. Rx:Reglan 5mg/5ml
sig: 1 tsp AC (before meals) & HS (at bedtime)

How much should be dispensed to last 30 days?

2. Rx: Humulin N
sig: 15U (units) QAM ( every morning) & 10U QPM ( every evening).

How much should be dispensed to last 30 days?

1 tsp (teaspoon) twice a day for 30 days.

1 tsp is what? 5mL? so 10mL a day x 30 days = 300mL to last 30 days. and if you're doing in mg, since it's 5mg/5mL, 300mL = 300mg.

same concept with the 2nd one. 15U every morning x 30 days = 450U + 10U every evening x 30 days = 300U >> 450U + 300U = 750U to last 30 days

Wouldn't it be four times a day, since there is generally 3 AC plus 1 HS. So, 5cc x 4 x 30.

1tsp=5mL
1 tsp AC = Before meals --> 3 tsp daily = 15mL
1 tsp HS = at bedtime --> 1 tsp daily = 5mL

15mL+5mL = 20mL daily

20mL x 30 days = 600mL

2. Rx: Humulin N
sig: 15U (units) QAM ( every morning) & 10U QPM ( every evening).

How much should be dispensed to last 30 days?

15U+10U = 25U
U= units
10mL vial contains 100U/mL

25U x 30 days = 750U

750U/100U x 1mL = 7.5mL

so, dispense 1 10mL vial

Pretty easy problems, but they are annoying as hell when doctors don't write down quantities .

One teaspoon = 5ml
I'm assuming 3 meals a day. So, 3 + 1 = 4 times a day

5 ml x 4 times/day x 30 days/month = 600 ml Reglan

2. Rx: Humulin N
sig: 15U (units) QAM ( every morning) & 10U QPM ( every evening).

How much should be dispensed to last 30 days?

15 + 10 = 25 units/day X 30 days/month = 750 Units

Humulin is usually 100 units/ml, so 750/100 = 7.5 ml

oh yeah. before meals. i guess people eat 3 meals a day :laugh:
