I have been accepted to NYCOM, and have applied to, and had interviews at, Sackler and Technion. I've been hearing that residency programs and hospitals are beginning to favor US degrees (even if they are DO's), over foreign MD's (even if they are from Sackler/Technion). However, when I compared the residency match list of the 3 schools, the standings were clear: Sackler>Technion>NYCOM. If it is true that US hospitals do, in fact, favor any US medical degree (DO or MD) over foreign MD degrees (even over Sacker/Technion), then how do you explain the strengths of their respective residency matchings? I really am torn as to which would be the smartest decision.

MD = DO >>>>>>>>>>>>> Foreign Medical schools. I've never even heard of Sackler or Technion.

How do you even know how to interpret a match list?

Not even close. If you are going to talk residency, MD >>>> DO >>>> Caribbean MD. The rest of FMG is so all over the map, it is hard to quantify. Places like Sackler/Queensland etc. Have match lists that resemble local oriented low tier US MD schools.

You should go to the school that maximizes your ability to do well. Which of course has nothing to do with their current match lists.

Yes, your answer is what I've been hearing the most from physicians and medical students. Its just difficult to decide which will be the better choice. Another twist of this issue is also how things are going to play out in the future. It seems that trends are moving towards equality between DO and MD in terms of boards and even reputation, and away from foreign schools, even if they are more reputable institutions like Technion and Sackler. Maybe, as it currently stands, Sackler and Technion might be the better choice, however, what about in a few years down the road? For example, by the time I finish medical school, American DO might unequivocally be the better choice than any foreign school. Just not sure what to make of this.

DO is not going to catch up to MD in terms of residency 'prestige' any time soon. The 'machine' in place that we all go through from applications to rotations to scores are going to keep things very similar to the way they are for a good while. Never mind that the program directors currently are going to be replaced over the next 10-15 years with people who think very similar to them. This whole, "They are really completely equal" push is very new and IF it does catch on, (which in my opinion will not), but IF it does, it will be many years down the road when current students become program directors.

Does that mean I should've did my Queensland interview and not given my deposit for NYIY-COM?
