Anyone going to be at the interview on March 12th?

I'm wondering if it's going to be a group or single interview with the panel of faculty and community PTs.

Looking forward to it, nonetheless.

I'll be there this Saturday! I don't know much about the interview process either. I'm hoping that it'll go well.

Karma,
Good luck, Saturday. I'm pretty sure the CSU interviews are a little more down-to-earth compared to other, more "prestigious," schools. I can't see Sac being any different.
What are your other choices for schools? Just Curious.

Hi PT2014,
I'm waiting to hear back from CSULB and CSUN. I heard they don't do interviews, so Sac State's my only interview left. I did interview at UCSF in January, but they rejected me 🙁

That's funny. I applied to CSULB and CSUN as well, but CSULB wanted more Bio so I crossed them off my list. CSUN is supposed to get back to us before April. I was also at the UCSF interview, but rejected too. It's a blessing in disguise because tuition woulda been crazy. It's down to Fresno, Sac, or CSUN for me.

How was the interview at Sac State?

The interview went well. The interviewers consisted of one faculty PT and 3 community PTs, and there was a list of 8-10 standard questions that they would ask you. At the end of the interview, you get to ask questions. It lasted for about 20 minutes- nothing too stressful. They all seemed friendly and they wanted to get to know you.

Currently, Sac State will be going through a transition as they are preparing to end the Master's degree and begin the process for accreditation for the DPT program.

Yep, it's the last year students can go to PT school without being forced into years of debt.

If you get in the program, congrats. I am a 1st year at CSUS. Good program, with excellent faculty.

I got into Sac and will be attending this fall. I was thrilled once I got to meet faculty and poke around the campus. The program seems like it's my "style" plus they have that amazing facility called the Well...

Sac State, ftw

I was also jacked when I found out I could be licensed by 2013 for less than $15,000. Anyone with half a brain would take the opportunity to attend a CSU, and Sacramento, nonetheless, so close to the bay, and tahoe....

😀😀😀

Less than $15,000? I'd like to know your secret...

My secret is not being fooled by national rankings for PT programs and suckered into a DPT program. This is the last year that California State Universities will offer the MPT.
It's just financial responsibility. I'd rather open a clinic than pay for tuition.

I agree that it is a great deal!!! I meant that I'd like to know your secret of how tuition only added up to $15,000..

http://www.csus.edu/schedule/Fall2010Spring2011/fees.html#reg

Sac State's curriculum includes 5 semesters of 6+ units and 2 semesters of 0-6 units.

0-6 units = $2069 x 2 semesters = 4138
6+ units = $3218 x 5 semesters = 16090

Program total = $20228 (that's also assuming tuition will stay the same as 2010-2011 rates, which is highly unlikely)

Whoops, forgot about third fall semester. Guess I'm just stoked to be done in 2013 instead of 2014 now.

Yes. I will also be attending in the fall! I'm very excited!!

CSU approved a 10% fee increase in the 2011-2012 academic year, so I expect the total tuition to be around $22,000. But I can't complain, it costs WAY less than the private schools in CA. I'll be attending CSUS- see you guys in the fall!

Ha! Nice. Lookin forward to meetin' everyone as well.

Turns out FAFSA is covering $3,200 worth of tuition with grants...
so a $565.00 tab for Fall semester isn't too bad for PT school

Wow, that is really amazing! I didn't realize FAFSA offered grants to PT students. I wish I could have gotten in on this last MPT cycle for the CSUs. I'll be applying next year for a 2013 start. Have you heard anything about what the CSU tuition will be like once it changes to a DPT program? I have my eye on Sac State, and I'm hoping it will still be significantly more affordable than the private schools!

First post!

I went to the info sessions for Cal State Long Beach and CSUN (Northridge) this month, and the price for the newly-offered DPT degree is significantly higher --

$8,000 per semester 😱

For the 3 semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer), you're looking at $24,000 per year, still less than the Cali private schools but a heck of lot more than the MPT price.

I imagine Sac State would be in the same boat but you should call to check to make sure.

Thank you for this very helpful first post! I'm surprised they charge the same for summer session as for fall and spring. 25k per year is pretty steep for in-state tuition at a state school! There are private schools (in other states) that are pretty close to that, so state school will really not be much of a savings anymore 🙁

Yeah, Mayo School, at $554 per credit with 133 total credits, comes in at under $74K for total tuition, very very close to the $72K total that is now the in-state price for Cal State.

Initially I was planning on sticking to the Los Angeles area, but at these prices and the $90K+ prices for all the local private schools, I'll also be looking elsewhere...
