Safe/Dangerous cities

Without even looking I know that D.C. and Richmond are the most dangerous...well two of the most dangerous anyway...

Okay I'm gonna look now 😉

Ahah! I was hoping to be wrong.

I want to go to VCU and its in Richmond :scared: ...at least its lower in the rankings than I thought 🙂

Wow...notice how New York is considered to be on the safe side. 👍

Baltimore is dangerous if you live in the dangerous areas. 99% of the violent crime is between the criminals themselves. The most any average Joe Smoe will experience is a smashed car window and a few CDs stolen.

By far the biggest criminals in Bmore are the Tow-truck drivers.

All Right!!!

I'm moving from the 21st most dangerous metro area to one that is not ranked. 😀

That thing can't be right. Has anyone ever been to El Paso? #2 on the Safest List? I wouldn't leave a parked car in front of the police station there.

Awesome site. I just knew Detroit had to be at the very top of the list. Looks like I better be prepared.

I second that Air vent!

Tow trucks are the worst

Ok, so I won't be living in Trenton of Camden NJ if I go to UMDNJ.. it was a relief to not see NEWARK on there... after the horror stories people have been telling me.

I grew up near the Richmond, VA area. They were the #1 murder city per capita a decade ago. This means the #1 cause of death is not heart disease, not cancer, but gunshot wounds.

I'd rather live in a city with 100 murders per year per 1,000,000 population than a city with 10 murders per year per 1,000 population.

Man, Gary has the rest of American SO smoked when it comes to per-capita murders. Sometimes I sit low in my seat just driving through on I-94.

From the way Cleveland looked....Not a chance I'll take my family to Cleveland.

BUMP! ...just thought the newcomers who are currently deciding on schools might be interested.

Yeah--you have to give it to Rudy, he made a huge difference!

Every city has safe areas and non safe areas. . . and I have to say that most on NYC is pretty safe. I used to live in the heart of Harlem and it was pretty safe there . . . although my roommate got randomly punched once. . . but according to the list it is safer than Phoenix where I grew up.

I would hope that you would want to live in a city w/ 100/1,000,000, since that gives you a 1 in 10,000 chance of being murdered compared to a 1 in 100. 😉

Future Memphians - I was in Memphis today for business - took a wrong turn, ended up on Rhodes street headed toward 78 and stopped to get gas a normal looking gas station...The cops came by and asked me if I was lost (out of state tags), I said no, and they told me I should leave and that I wasn't in a safe neighborhood - at 5 in the afternoon!! Also, two guys that I know, in the last few weeks, have had their cars broken into near company headquarters (intersection of Poplar and 240) and had everything stolen...
don't leave ANYTHING in your car in Memphis! 😱

Cars get stolen and keyed (which, btw, I think is the most bizzare practise - everytime I see random vandalism I just feel like leaving a sticky on my car giving them $.02 with which to buy a life 🙄 ) in any big city, I should think. Admittedly I live in Queens, NYC, which is not the poster borough for peace and harmony, but I live an a relatively safe, suburban area -- and car theft/vandalism in rampant. Sigh. That's another one of my pet peeves...

Anyone going to LSU Dental School.
