Safeway and Albertsons merging...layoffs?

No way. A career in pharmacy is safe. Obamacare, baby boomers, old pharmacists retiring, high reimbursement rate, rapid expansion of clinical services (my professors were right), continued shortage of pharmacists. This gravy train is going to keep on going at full speed.

Add in, and this is no slap at you or any woman...but just something I thought of when I saw your "on maternity leave" tag, the many female pharmacists who scale back to PT or PRN hours, or leave the profession for many years, to have children.

"No stores will close because of the merger."

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Exactly my thoughts. For example, there would be over 100 Albertsons stores in the DFW metroplex alone after this merger. The redundancy of stores in certain locations would almost certainly have to force closings. Also, why in the world would they want to keep open the non renovated/non profitable stores open?

Closings are going to happen, just a matter of who gets to keep their jobs.

Lol yeah. A street in my town with a safeway across the street from an albertsons comes to mind immediately from this post. I am hoping they dont shut down the Safeway because its more recently remodeled... but "no store closings?" Lol . Lol.

Both chains are on the marginal side of competitiveness even to begin with.

Wow, I have a lot of friends working at both of these companies. There are bunches of them right next to each other all over my city. There is no way that there wouldn't be store closings.
