Anybody who is from Saint Leo University in Florida?

I was thinking of taking some of the courses from there since USF has a restriction on second-bachelors-degree-seeking students which prevents us registering courses until all lower grades have registered first. This way, I doubt I'm gonna be able to find an available spot especially in ochem and other high level science courses.

Is Saint Leo considered a competent school regarding to MD school applications?

How do you recommend to take any of the pre-req courses from there?

It is inappropriate to bump a post unless several hours AT LEAST have passed since you posted, or unless it falls to the second page of the board. The bumping twice in 30 minutes is not acceptable here. This is a bulletin board, not a real-time board. Sometimes it can take over a day to get a response. Please sit tight, either someone will answer your post or not.

What about post-bac at USF? Why do you need an entire second degree?

IMO, do not go with St. Leo. They have a poor science program. You would do better, and cheaper, with Pasco-Hernando CC up the street.

Other options which are not USF or St. Leo:

  • University of Tampa: their chem program was recently ACS-certified; they are on the up-and-up
  • Eckerd: good professional prep school
  • Rollins: haven't heard much

Why are you getting a second degree? The BS in Biology won't do anything to boost your chances. You should be able to get all the premed coursework done in a much shorter timeframe than the degree in biology would take. Plus, with the Bio degree, you will be required to take courses that have zero use in medicine (Ecology, Plant Biology, etc.). I guess it doesn't make sense to me unless you're just saying that you're degree-seeking in order to help you get into classes..

Yes, that's one of the points, as well as having access to financial aid (I'm not that rich, need to work for full-time to afford my living). However, it's becoming worthless from USF's point of view nowadays because if they tag you as a post-bacc student, then you're automatically restricted from registering to courses until all of the lower grade students have registered. Until a post-bacc student registers, all sections have already become full.

I was expecting that they would open extra sections/classes for those "popular" (they name it so) courses because there is an obvious imbalance between demand and their supply; the only public university is USF in Tampa.
