Does anyone know where I can get the average salaries for Radiologists, Oncologists, or Dermatologists? I'm trying to decide what I should go for and certainly the cashflow is part of the decision.

happydays said:Yeah, salary.com is how I decided on my profession: wife of Bill Gates.
NonTradMed said:Are you premed? Because if you are, the biggest thing you should focus on is getting into med school. If you are a med student trying to decide where to match into, you're in the wrong forum. The three specialities you mentioned are hard to get into, and for a premed to decide where to go at this stage would be akin to having a middle schooler asking people what major they should decide on in college.
Btw, if money is a big concern, try also looking into dentistry and pharmacy. There's not dillydallying with residency and you come out making good money too.

Plus, while money factors in the equation, the first thing that should be considered is whether you'd see yourself happy in the field.
Medicine is a long and hard path. If money is the main reason and only reason then you are entering the wrong field because medicine is changing everyday and doctors are losing much autonomy and salaries aren't as high as they were in the 70's or 80's.
What? You were just kidding!? I was going to ask you to marry me!Jbienven said:Jeez....Spine Surgery here I come! 🙂
ORS - Spine Surgery
$398,000
$670,000
$1,352,000
Just kidding, but 1.3 million net income as a physician? that's pretty high up there.
Zoom-Zoom said:What they said, I have never even began to think about this kind of stuff
by the way, if doctors are loosing so much money, don't you think it might be good to have a realistic idea of how much they are making before entering such a long, hard path? Just a hypothetical argument, of course.

He was "just kidding" about becoming a spinal surgeon. The salary is from an official site, and the officials never kid.deuist said:He wasn't kidding. Spinal surgeon really are the highest paid specialty. I'd rather make millions of dollars as an author. I'd then give free medical care to the poor with my spare time.

Seriously, you guys are too serious.gujuDoc said:Do a search. But the other day there was a thread about that website. I gathered that it wasn't the most accurate website and that a better source was the AMA webresources on salaries.

Zoom-Zoom said:I agree not to put a lot of stock into that site, but mostly because by the time we finish residencies and are into our money-making days the incomes will be totally different. There is no way to predict what the "hot" new specialty will be. However, it would be a fair bet to say ortho and plastics will always be up there 😛

if you're in it for the money, then try making big bucks (i.e. greater than 300K) as a pharmacist or dentist. yeah right....

I think dentists is variable since it's private practice. Just like medicine, if you have an extremely lucrative private practice then u can make way more than 300K even as a primary care doc. Hiring of PAs, expanding into group practice, etc. Of course you have to be good in business and administration to develop such a successful practice.

nmnrraven said:HA! Thanks for the info but i'm already accepted and although it may seem very cocky, i expect to get into any of those residencies. So, just looking for the salary information.

gujuDoc said:Oh ok. I wish you clarified that in the earlier post. Sorry for coming off harsh. I thought you were one of those froshy's that like to start thinking about those things before they've even gotten accepted.
That link someone posted is the closest there is to finding any salaries easily, but I don't know how accurate it is as I said earlier.
I know there is some resource through AMA but couldn't find it when I did a search on their website.
