dang. I find it shocking that MDs get reimbursed so much more for therapy than PhDs!

Physicians and Nurses have far better lobbyists who have been far more effective in getting legislation that favors each group. Not surprisingly both groups have given more money to support their positions than psychologists.

I'd say this seems to be one of the biggest reasons psychologists have such little legislative influence. It takes money to garner influence, simple as that, and as you've said, psychologists tend to be fairly stingy in that regard.

Anyone here recall or recall stories of the US talking about how corrupt the USSR was because government cronies had to be bought off at every level to do the right thing?

That is how the world works....either you buy a seat at the table or you hope someone tosses you some crumbs after they take their cut of the pie.
