Salary of a PT Resident?

What is the average salary of an orthopaedic or sports PT resident? Can anyone give an example/experience? If so then please include city/state.

I've been practicing OP for 2 years and do not mind a slight salary cut to attend a residency program, however, I will mind if it's like a 50% cut! Any info would be appreciated.

Depends. Some pay near entrylevel and give full hours. Others are predatory.

near entry level? so around 65k after the tuition fee? sounds like a good deal to me

1. My bad. Closer to 50-55k I believe after tuition. There are a few that are very solid and have no tuition charge though. You will do A LOT outside of clinic but it's to remain within the necessary requirements to keep accreditation and give you a full wage. Expect up to 60-70 hours a week to complete case studies, EBP, surgical sitins, outcome tracking if it has moved to that, and mentorship/didactics for your caseload.

That's hell but it's a difference in work responsibilities. 30 hrs more psychological work rather than physical is very very different and much more balanced.

Ex. Learning the correct open and closed chain exercises for successful knee rehab reading at night as you progress through rehab stages with different loads based on MOI. Implement during the day as you work and bill

My personal view is that if we can't be compensated at the 1-5% salary range, at least, (55k approximately) then the residencies are harming field integrity since it is preceding extra compensation from value based healthcare analytics currently. You can't have someone do a peds residency and then dip out to make 100k+ in Home Health for the next few years to pay down accumulated interest from loans and time loss from full pay for 12 months. Like what's the point? If the program coordinators aren't taking that into account then they are crazy.

They still aren't like general practice dentistry and community pharmacy residencies at least.....heck, even some of the hospital ones. Talk about generational exploitation! Look at some of their forums.

Do any of you know of any orthopaedic residencies that pay an entry level DPT salary? I used to be a tech at Benchmark and they had an in house ortho residency that full time PTs can enroll in by paying some tuition but I'm not too familiar with any other residency programs that do the same.

If the entire point of dental and pharm school is to pass boards and be minimally competent for general dentistry and retail chains why would you ever accept peanuts to do the same exact thing you did for essentially an entire year of school paying tuition?

Like a "community pharmacy residency" would just be dispensing and double checking meds for hundreds of customers a day. The same thing in school. If you went into medical student debt to practice dentistry why would you ever do a GPR instead of just getting an associate position for a company?

Why would you work home health for a year at a reduced wage when you would do the same thing and make six figures to pay off your student loans right out of school?

It follows the same logic

Search latest forums. I just talked to a guy who did that. He is a follower for me so you can probably PM. He had a good experience it looks like and the structure looked solid actually

My classmate negotiated a $70K salary for 1 yr ortho residency about 5 yrs ago. It was with the Jackson clinics in VA. Check their website out.
