Hi my name is Frank, I'm from Puerto Rico
This is my story

Last year in 2008 I studied in the Cisco Network Academy. To pay for this I had to request a loan. It turned out to be the only institution Aspira(where I took the classes) worked with was Sallie Mae.

Having experience with citibank and their student loans, a good experience I said yes.
And filled for a loan request.

On November 27 of 2008 I received this email:

Yup, My loan request was rejected due lack of documents or how it states in that email.
I never got contacted by sallie mae again in reference of my student loan. Not by mail, phone or email.

....until April 22 of 2009.
I received a call from sallie mae stating that I was late for my first payment and I had to pay extra fines and such. I was just blown away by this. I had no idea of this.
The educational institution didn't contacted me because everything was good there. Loan was processed and they got paid and everything was fine. But to me they instead sentd me a email stating my loan was denied and never contacted me again.

Why did you didnt contacted me earlier? Why didnt you send me mail? email? or called me?
You called me now, you surely could have called earlier.
After a lot of fighting and going through many phone representatives one finally said "Oh We had your address wrong and thats why we Didnt sent you documents through mail". What?
Then why you didnt called or emailed me?
At what the representative stood silent.

At one point one representative was cynical enough to say something as "well sir did you thought your studies were free?".
I just wanted to smack that person right away.

So now not only I'm late for my first payment, I requested a deferment because I dont have a job and it results you need to pay for a deferment!
If you dont have a job to pay your loan you have to pay for a deferment! How absurd is that?
Browsing google I find out I'm working with the worse student loan bank possible in America.
I've read countless of stories stating while in deferment your principal grows insanely.

Why do I have to pay for this when I didnt even knew I had a loan?
Not only that I have email proof of them stating they denied my loan request!

Ugh this is being such a pain.
Any advices?

OK, I am curious, and I did fine paying off my Sallie Mae stuff 5 years ago, so HOW DID you think your tuition and such was paid for? Also, how did you avoid exit counseling? Generally you have to sign something somewhere.

I've had a few problems with Sallie Mae (deferment request listed as forbearance request, loss of benefits, etc.), but EVERYTHING has been corrected to my advantage with a simple phone call and/or letter.

Did you think the tuition fairy graced her presence and paid your tuition? Seriously, you should have researched who mysteriously paid your tuition fees.

Yes, very strange.
Where did the OP think the money came from?
Also, I assume the OP had to sign something (some forms?) to take out the loan. Most all US universities require exit counseling as well. Isn't that required for all Sallie Mae loans?
