I tried a little searching for this but did quite get the answer I was looking for. If someone is a better searcher than me, just link me.

Anyway, I was wondering whether it would be worth my time to send some sort of update letter/interest letter to schools I have yet to interview at and one that I have. I haven't cured cancer since applying or started anything new so is it going to help me at all?

If I sent one it would be after I get my grades for this semester and find out whether I made deans list again. I'm teaching again this semester and I did some alumni relations stuff for my sorority but otherwise I've pretty much just continued to do the things that are already on my app (and which apparently aren't making the schools wanna jump my bones too bad).

Maybe what I'm asking is: at what point have you done something worthy of an update letter instead of just begging?

If you won a Nobel Prize, you might want to update otherwise, it's a total waste of time. If your application wasn't competitive as you filled it out, there is nothing that you can do (other than an MCAT retake with significant change; more than 10 points) that we wouldn't have anyway. Update letters do not sway committees and at this point (early Dec) most folks are shutting down until after the holidays after next week. Begging doesn't work ether. If you are still in the running, you will get some sort of notification/invitation for interview. If not, you get the rejection letter.

It's not like my application wasn't competitive or I was planning to send a xmas card like "Merry Xmas- dear santa, please admit me" lol.
I just didn't know if it might be even marginally beneficial at schools that have said "we will review you after the 1st of the year" to send them something.

anyone else have any thoughts?

Ceteris paribus, it may give you an edge over an applicant who hasn't sent one in (during 2nd reviews). Some schools love update letters; others have strict policies against them.

You may want to ask in the "school-specific" threads.
