does anyone have a sample of what the CAS app looks like? I'm trying to get an idea of what needs to be done for the application so I'm not scrambling at the last minute (like with med school apps). Besides the PS and LORs, what other stuff should I try to prepare in advance? I just assumed CAS was pretty much our CV.

it's 6 pages.

Page 1: personal data (address, etc), prerequisites (step 1, step 2, step 3 scores, COMLEX)
Page 2: education, AOA Honor Society Status, LORs (three slots listing writers' name, title, address, phone)
Page 3: past and present employment, public service and activities, and outside interests and hobbies
Page 4: career objectives, speciality electives and related activities, honors awards and acheivements
Page 5: autobiographical sketch
Page 6: research activities, paragraphs and/or additional information

let me know if you have other specific Qs

Thanks!

What's the prompt/word limit for the career objectives, autobiographical sketch, and "paragraphs and/or additional information"?

The CAS does not provide you with a word limit. Instead when you hit it, it automatically backs you up or doesn't let you enter anymore characters.

If you are this gung-ho just start working on a personal statement and you will be WELL ahead of the game. If you stick to the 1 page rule for a personal statement length you should be fine.

Thanks for the info. Sorry, not trying to be "gung-ho" or anything, but one of my letter writers asked for my applications materials and essays. I figured if I'm going to put the time into writing something up I may as well make it useful toward my app and within the word limit.

OK at the same time, you can write up small blurbs and stuff that you feel might help your letter writer and let your ideas marinate for longer. I think the writer should understand that you're not going to have ALL that ready at this exact moment. A CV, Step scores, unofficial transcript, a frank conversation and a few paragraphs about things you are proud of, what makes you who you are and your interest in ophtho should suffice. I did that for one of my letter writers - wrote up 4 pages or so for her and everyone complimented me on her letter. Must have helped her some 🙂
