in a drug trial, what is the n? the number of the subjects that took the drug, or all the subjects included the ones in the placebo group?

"n" depends on the structure of the clinical trial, how many arms there are in the trial, etc. You would need to be more specific with your question.

let's say two arms, one of placebo and another one of the drug that is examined in that trial
