samsung note II or galaxy s4?

Hey guys,

About to start third year...I was wondering if you guys think the Samsung Note II is worth having because of the S-Pen function. I feel like it would be nice to be able to take notes on patients when taking a history or just jotting down notes to help you remember clinical pearls....

The downside is the size of the phone, it's really big.

Is it worth getting the note II just for the Pen function?

If you like the note, go ahead and get it. It really isn't that much bigger than other smartphones. However, I don't know how often you'd be using the pen function. I'm planning on taking my tablet with me when possible just so I can read when I have downtime.

Yea I don't think the tablet is worth it if you can just get a large smartphone. I feel like having a tablet will be really cumbersome.

The S4 galaxy has many advantages to the Note phone. Better camera, Faster processor, More new software features (that may or not be useless). Disadvantages are smaller battery (but I think it can be replaced) and no S-Pen function.


We'll see, I think Im leaning towards the Galaxy, because I have talked to a few med students and they seemed to think the s-pen wouldn't be that helpful during rotations...but who knows.

I'm going through the same decision process myself.

Another option -- S3 and 7" tablet (ie nexus 7). About the same price as note II/S4.

The less you carry during 3rd year, the better. Some rotations such as surgery will require you to leave all of your stuff behind for hours at a time. You don't want that stolen.

Stick it out with what you've got and wait another year, you will have better options then. See if Apple decides to finally listen to the community and come out with a phone with a larger screen. S4 does not seem to be as well received as the S3 was a year ago. Note is too big and Gates is an idiot for thinking devices need a stylus these days. It's disappointing. Wait for something better.
