San Francisco You've Got Me--UCSF post Secondary 2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Omg! I got in!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! :hardy:

🙁 I guess that pretty much answers our question. If I am correct, are Boojeee, Shanghaididact, inkare, nontrad hopeful, pausey, and phomp in my same situation of not hearing anything post-interview, yet realizing that the last batch of acceptance gone out last week...Maybe someone else can do the math and come up with a different answer than me?

sigh me too....but oh well. good luck to all of us waiting still...i'm still holding on the almost impossible hope that the mail system is just realllllllllllly slow? 😳 Good luck to the HP-listers as well! Let's hope for more good news on this thread 🙂

Haha, sure. It was postmarked April 9; I received it today, and I live in DC. Large envelope with both ends taped (so it was hard to open!).

Just talked to the admissions office RE: Merit Scholarships

They said they are a little behind and none have been awarded yet (yay!), and they will send them out around the end of the month, they are shooting to have recipients receive them before second look weekend. :luck:

soooooo.....i don't have much new found hope, but thought i would share. so i am also a jmp applicant and i called the jmp office today cause my transcripts were sent late. much to my surprise, my decision letter was apparently lost... 😱 sent at the end of march.. (alternate list..boohoo)...

i decided this gave me an opportunity to call ucsf. i confirmed my address...and i also asked if any letter had been sent to me. the lady i spoke with said that my file as well as many others were still "under consideration"

i don't know what that means...we shall see...

Would anyone venture to figure out when the next committee meeting is? I think we had a few people who were pretty familiar with the process, like Ariodont or someone similar, who was pretty in the know with regards to this. I'm shaking in my boots. :scared:

well i guess that's better than "the last batch of acceptances already went out"!

bumpity bump. if news comes in, I want this page to be easy access

It's officially the second half of April... I think I'm going to call on Monday, ask when HP people will get final decisions, and explain my reason for wanting to know specifically. I really hope they'll tell me, and I really hope we'll find out by the end of the month =/

go for it! 😍

So, I caved and called today.

As someone reported earlier, all the outright acceptances have gone out - the class is already overbooked. This means that HP people are either going to get a letter of denial or alternate list around the end of the month. If we're put on alternate list, we'll just have to wait around and see if anyone drops.

I guess this means I'm not getting an acceptance before May 2. Oh well. Time to figure out my summer plans.

*Heading spinning with what to do with summer plans now*

So if the HP waitlist is about to become a good old regular waitlist, then things look rather dim right now. I hope when they send out the next letter, it says whether chances are high, medium, or low just so I do not have to wait another 2 months knowing so little.

EDIT: One day I bet medical school admissions will be like the match...you just get assigned to a school. I think it would be easier on both the applicant and the school?

Indeed... it looks like it's time for me to really explore UCSD and convince myself that I'll be happy there. Waitlists suck... and I'm waitlisted at my top 2 choices. I'm really disappointed that no one's getting in off the HP list (at this point, anyways... and who knows how much it'll move after May).

yeah i called them too. She told me the have accepted "well over 200 people", the class is overbooked at this point. The people who haven't heard will either get a letter or denial or an alternate list.

I asked her how many people are typically on the alternate list, she told me 100 people. So, it seems like very few people will get off the alternate list this year.

Thats really a shame, I really wanted to go to UCSF.

okay...i need a crying face emoticon.

thanks for the update, inkare. i wonder when they will send the letters for the rest of us....

at least many of you already have acceptances somewhere else. I'm stuck with rejections, 1 waitlist, and 1 unknown from UCSF (but now apparently either waitlist or rejection). AND I was accepted at 3 medical schools last year and I had to turn them all down due to family issues. Talk about a major bummer.

I would have thought that "out right acceptances" would mean that they were accepted directly post interview. the HP list hasnt even yet been reviewed the second time around at all. I would imagine that they would still be open to sending out acceptances. I think that we are all being a little bit pessimistic. It's the stress!:scared::luck:

Yes, but she did explicitly say that HP people would receive a letter of "alternate list" or "denial" - acceptance at this point is not an option. People may be accepted off the alternate list, if enough drop out. So basically we're getting shuttled from one waitlist to another...

Nontrad, I'm sorry that things have not worked this time around. I hope you receive some good news in the coming months.

i don't think i understand the people who turn down a UCSF spot--but i think there will be some. i am hopeful for all us HP-potential waitlisters. thanks to everyone who has called in and found out the info...

Ah. I called in too. Well, at least we'll hear back soon! It's just comforting to know that UCSF usually admits around 250 students to fill all their slots. sigh.

what did they say to you soulspkn? something different? what was more comforting about your conversation?

honestly they didnt say much different. But she was a comforting person, and the numbers make me feel a bit better. I have my fingers crossed for sure. All I can say is relax. Thats the only advice I could give myself. Sigh.

well folks ....after being dragged about for the last 5 months..... i am sad to say that i received the rejection letter today......its was heartbreaking and i wish they hadn't waited so long to send me this small envelope.... but i'm glad it is over...... i wish you guys all the best!!!!!!!!!!! i hope you had better luck than me=)

Sorry for the bad news marmals.🙁 At least you can plan your future now instead of being left in limbo.

Did anyone else get a letter today?

I'm really sorry to hear that Marmals... best of luck at the lucky medical school that will have you next year!

Back from vacation.

At this point all profiles should have been reviewed at least once, and since my informant is not sure about the date of the next meeting, I can't update the HP list people on when they will start to hear about final decisions. Since they probably don't need to re-evaluate profiles in the presence of respective interviewers, they will likely proceed faster and in orders of when people are listed.

And I don't have auspicious feelings for people on the waitlist either. Everyone I know that has to do with admissions is talking about overbooking.

no mail today? haha. or no news ariodant? lol

anyone any news from SF ?? I guess everyone has just given up of SF, lol.

No mail here. I hope I at least get alternate list... rejection would be a bummer.

so did they ever offer any outright admissions to anybody on HP or did everyone in that group just get put off. surely someone knows someone who got an offer from HP?

I got my rejection letter today in the mail 🙁 interviewed late february

good luck to the rest of you! UCSF is an amazing school 🙂

🙁 I am sorry. Were you ever put on the HP list, or was it an outright rejection?

I hope that you have great options and that you'll end up at a place that makes you happy!

Sorry to hear that buttercupbaby. I'm in the same shoes as you. I haven't heard back anything from them. So it's either a rejection or a WL.

Did anyone else get any mail from them?

Well, if it's any help to people on the HP list I was accepted in Jan and applied for a deferral. No word yet on that, but there may be an extra free spot in next year's class. I'm definitely still planning on UCSF though. My goodness, I sure feel lucky to have a spot there.

hey, coongrats with ucsd btw. what did you go to uc irvine for??

Any news from anyone else? They seem to send decisions in batches.

hi, i've been following this thread for the last month or so.

i interviewed at ucsf in late feb. i haven't received anything in the mail yet.

however, i called the admissions office earlier today. they said that i should be receiving a response in the mail within the next two weeks. they're still sending out their decisions.

i asked if they were still sending out acceptances, and the admission officer said that they were sending out ALL kinds of decisions.

that's it. ciao.

they definitely dodged your question there... anyway, i'm an HPlister and haven't heard anything since mid March.

this thread could not be more depressing. i can't help but constantly update my boyfriend on things like "well, someone called in today and it looks like there are no more acceptances." or "maybe there are because they said 'all' types of decisions."

i feel like i need to go to therapy just dealing with the endless speculation.

and so the next phase of waiting starts. alternate list. boo. anyone keeping me company here?

i would assume they said all types of decisions because people who are on the waitlist could maybe if a snowball would catch fire get accepted...

i feel ya silk..welcome to crazy town...

Ah... it is official... alternate list for me too.

No snowball on fire for me 🙁

The uncertainty continues.

At least this letter was very nice... "The Committee on Admissions is pleased to inform you that you have been selected as an alternate for the 2008 entering class. The Committee has been greatly impressed with your credentials and regrets that the press of applicants prevents us from being able to offer you an immediate position in the class. We hope to be able to do so before the admissions cycle is complete."

I wonder how many of us are on the alternate list...

I can't help but think that my application was just tossed aside! I interviewed in February and was never put on the HP list, have not been accepted, have not been rejected, have not been put on the waitlist. I thought I'd at least hear something before the HP ppl were re-reviewed. What happen to my first review?? 🙁

hey silverlining, did you get that by snail mail today? where do you live? I'm in SoCal...Perhaps I should brace myself for the alternate list notice as well.

hmm...maybe that's a good sign, lee! 🙂

on another note...so they use some sort of reduced postage for bulk mail...my letter was mailed 4/23...i'm in sf and i got my letter today (4/25). i suspect mail will be coming for others but who knows...

I got the letter today (4/25) - it was dated 4/23. I'm in the Bay Area.

alternate list for me too. just got the letter in the mail today (letter was sent 04-23-08).

also i talked to someone today who called the admissions office. they told her that some acceptances from the HP list have already been made. if you're on the hp list and haven't heard... most likely you're an alternate like me.
