hi i want to get into pre pharm at purdue. i will be a senior this year and i will be applying to purdue in august. my class rank is in the top 15% and my sat score is a 1700. my sub scores were: CR-540, M-590, W-570. i got an 8 on my essay. i do a lot of clubs and sports. my gpa is a 4.0. i also did research in molecular biology in lab at IU. im planning on writing a research summary paper for that. what r my chances of getting in?

This isn't really a pre pharm post. You're applying to Purdue as an undergraduate. Heres a quote from your other thread:

"Pre-Pharm" is just a designated pathway for undergraduate students to follow. It is not a major, but most people going into pharmacy declare chemistry, biology, etc. as majors because most of the classes fulfill pre-pharmacy requriements.

So just like what Medicalcpa said, worry about being accepted to Purdue first. Then you can simply declare that you're in pre-pharmacy.

If, for whatever reason it is competitive to get into their pre-pharm program, another option that I'm sure could work is to apply and go as "undecided" and simply switch to a science major once you're in college. No matter what, you'll have to apply to Purdue's pharmacy school even if you're an undergrad student there.

They're not evaluating you for wanting to do prepharm but rather if they want you as an undergraduate student in the college of science.

For that you need to do some research and see some undergraduate statistics are. I found these two pages in a few minutes, I'm sure if you look harder you'll find better.

how do you have a 4.0 GPA, but only get a 1700 on the SAT? Do you take General Prep classes and not College Prep, Honors and AP? You should have gotten a 2000 at least. I got a 1990 and I had like a 3.2 GPA.

I must be getting old but I remember when 1700 was 100 more than a perfect score on the SAT.

All these 1900+ scores make me feel all self-conscious about my 1530, except that was on the "old" SAT. No wonder my co-workers/classmates, who are all pretty much fresh off the boat from HS, look at my cock-eyed when I say, proudly, that I nearly aced the SAT and say "1530"... Clearly 1530 is a horrible score for the "new" SAT.

Ahhhh progress...

I got in to purdue's prepharmacy program with 25 ACT and 3.6 gpa. So, you should be just fine.

Take off 35 for each section. I'd just start telling them you get a 2295, but they would still look at you cock-eyed for an amazing score.

Is it the same to convert like that, though?

I mean, that is to say... If I sat down to take the new SAT back in 1999, would I have performed the same (i.e., 2295?)

From what I have read, the new SAT introduces a Writing section that we didn't have "in my day." (Why do I feel like my father...) The old SAT was 75 minutes for Quant, the new one is 70, and includes Alg II which we didn't have to deal with. I dunno... not like SAT scores matter anymore, but it's always funny when they come up among the fresh graduates without another metric to measure their ego with.

What is up with all these 4.5 GPAs? yeesh.
