Just out of curiosity, why do they ask for them? Do you think they are gathering data? I did pretty poor on the SAT but was fairly successful on the ACT. Both tests were in the year 2000, and academics weren't a priority. Will this hurt me?

It might just be for internal research, or just as another data point on your test-taking ability to help put any inconsistencies in context. Whatever it is, highly doubt it has any sort of significant weight in the decision.

It's almost certainly used for internal research. After all, don't you think it's an interesting question to see how ACT/SAT scores correlate to success on the MCAT and Step 1? You're not getting rejected for a so-so SAT.

I agree, and I also hope that's not a reason for rejection, it was SOOOOO long ago.

You mean that test I took 7 years ago and didn’t even know what was on it when I took it? Yup, that evaluates my doctoring potential.

I'm an OOS applicant with no ties to Florida but would like to stay there and practice. I recently heard they mainly accept IS applicants, do you think I should still apply?

Why did you bump a 3 week-old thread for a completely unrelated question that has been asked many times before?

Regardless, the answer is generally no. Buy MSAR and figure out what schools in FL are relatively OOS friendly. If you fit their stats, then apply there.

Sorry still new to this website. Thanks though!

I attended a talk by the dean of admissions of a school that asks for SAT and ACT scores. She said that they use the scores to see a pattern in your standardized test taking, mostly to help you out. For example, if you’re just a person who does not do well on standardized tests in general, and thus received mediocre scores on the SAT and the MCAT, they interpret then take that into account when they review you holistically knowing that while you may not be good at standardized testing, your academic success is shown through other factors in your application, like GPA. Either way, I don’t think including your score will hurt your application.
