Does anyone know if "save pay" gets paid with a break in service? I'm currently active duty and am eventually considering applying to USUHS. To get all the pre-reqs knocked out, I'm thinking of separating to do a post-bac (changes to Post 9/11 GI Bill now allow GI Bill funding for post-bacs).

Yes it does. Stay in the reserves (IRR at least), in which you can still advance in rank and time-in-service (provided that you jump through whatever minimal hoops). When you come to usuhs, your save pay will be calculated according to your current rank and time (which will include reserve time).

I did what DrMetal is talking about. But if you don't stay in the reserves your save pay will be calculated on when you left active duty.
