Other than table height, lighter lead etc. any tips on saving our backs. After a long day doing procedures my back really hurts. It’s muscular no doubt. I’m only 7 years in, could get to be a problem
You need to use/work those muscles. Back exercises are boring but effective. Kayaking is fun and effective. Make sure you do the correct stroke technique, a proper kayak stroke uses your core not your arms.Other than table height, lighter lead etc. any tips on saving our backs. I tend to think muscle pain comes from strenuous activity. It sounds like you’re having pain with standing unless your procedures involve acrobatics. The first thing I’d do is presume it isn’t a muscle, then try to spread the procedures over multiple days per week if you can.Other than table height, lighter lead etc. any tips on saving our backs. Make sure and take the lead off between cases. Use the stool to examine people and do tests such as the SLR.

bad advice.
off and off 50x/week? no thanks. just sit in between cases.
yes, do all the exercises, but make sure the table isnt too high or too low. you should not be leaning over the table. that is #1.
depends on what you are doing between cases.
We work out sometimes with a weighted vests, or at least used to. now the closest thing I have is working out in my lead , Don’t knock it...sure. i wouldnt recommend burpees or yardwork with a lead gown

All good comments.
I realized my job plus basketball was destroying my back. There is likely a two hit/insult process going on, as usual. Make lifestyle changes or activity modifications like we recommend every 30 minutes to our patients .
Arching the back , and wag the tail are my go to back stretches...
Basketball has made me stiff as hell. I havent played this much basketball in years. I feel it in my ankles and my low back. Also when I take charge, I feel like **** the next day. Good thing the only charge I take is from a 13 year old that is skin and bones...All good comments.

Low back exercise handout.
In my town it’s called the B team...I remember showing up to the “over 30” basketball league in my town... I am not short, but I was a child compared to these monsters. The shortest guy after me, was 6’3. These dudes were all talking about their college basketball days where they walked onto their division 3 teams... so no NBA players there, but holy he’ll was it a different world. I should have just left. It WAS NOT FUN. I got elbowed, beat up, arguing over fouls... I left and never came back...
And I don’t think they were 30...
I need an over 50 league (I’m 45)
Living where you live, you can play golf pretty much year-round. Unfortunately we have four months that we can probably play golf, and 50% of the time it’s raining. That’s why indoor activities like basketball are always good, but I think I am at the end of the lineIn my town it’s called the B team...
I still have neck pain after somebody brought me down in a headlock after a rebound . Take up tennis .
Don’t fret. I can perform a discography and inject some mesenchymal cells if you like...Living where you live, you can play golf pretty much year-round. I worry about the Achilles...Definitely had to give up Bball. To much risk to back and knees. Seeing all the ridiculous ways people get hurt like tripping over their cat made me realize it just wasn’t worth the risk.
There’s ample evidence that a core program is no better overall than general exercise and reinforced by the wide variety of comments above. It's funny how the literature is replete with evidence for core exercises and by God they do work!
When I hit 45 had to give up hoops completely as too much wear and tear on the knees, Now I play the old man "sport" of Golf, On the plus side at least now I don't have to wait until the game is over to drink a Beer.
Like a wrestler from Iowa!We used to beat up kids when I was growing up who played basketball, as we considered it to be a girl's game (still is). One of my childhood pals used to be on the receiving end of that periodically; he went on to be a pretty good D1 collegiate player and played in the NBA as well. However, given the fact he was a basketball player, we all considered him to be a fairy.
My wife played basketball in highschool and college, but she is a girl, so it was okay.

I'm of the opinion sitting with lead on is a bad idea for the disk.
