When I try my best, I can get a 3.60 overall at a jc with a 3.4 science/math. I'm done with 90% of my prereqs at the jc and am transferring to a UC this fall as a biology major. How likely is it that I will maintain this gpa after I transfer and take the upper division classes for the bio major? I'm scared because my cumulative gpa right now is right at the cutoff of 3.05 and I am afraid it might go down.

By how much does the average students gpa change after they transfer from jc lower division to UC upper division??

which UC will you be transferring to? it definitely will get harder since it'll be upper division courses, and possibly the faster pace of a quarter system from a UC may make it harder (or maybe not) for you also. just try your hardest and don't slack off.

In general, community college students actually fare better than their UC counterparts ( from my own personal experience as one of the latter ) because they have developed accountability and responsible study habits. Don't sweat it =)

My CC GPA at SBVC was 4.0, at CHC it was 3.75. At four-year I had 3.4. It really depends on your coursework, your job, and your family/extracurriculars. I found my CC instructors tended to try and teach the class rather than just sit up and spit out lectures all day. You know, things like answering questions, being available for office hours, etc. Some of my instructors at CSUSB were that way too, but not as many. I also went to full-time hours at work from part-time and had my first kid after transferring from CC to 4yr. Had the other two variables been constant, I'd probably have had a higher 4-yr GPA.
