I will be an incoming student this coming fall. I was hoping to find an unfurnished studio or one bedroom apartment in Fullerton or Irvine (or in between the two). I don't know any of the areas or complexes down there, but if anyone has any nice ones they know of, I would really appreciate the advice! I am hoping for $1200 or under, but not set on that. Something with gated parking would be nice, in a safe/nice area. Thanks for your help!

if you are willing to pay up to 1200 i would recommend tribeca apts. its on yorba linda about 3 min down the street from school. it is a gated community with gated parking and its really nice...it has a nice workout area and pool/hot tub .... my bf lives there and pays about 1000 for a studio. if you want something cheaper pepperwood apts is the way to go. its on derek dr and its a 3 min walk from school (in the neighborhood across the street from school).. its also gated with gated parking and my roommate and i pay 1200 for a 2 bedroom and i know they have 1 bedrooms so they must be less. its definitely not as nice but it is the cheapest place i know....

Is it common for a first year to get one of the school's condos?

hahahha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok... now that i have picked myself off the floor 🙂 hehe jk there is a small chance that if there are upperclassmen with one of the 3 bedroom condos and with only 1 roommate they might email people in your class to get a 3rd roommate... but i wouldnt hold my breath for it
usually people put their names on the list as soon as they get accepted.. and most of those people will be offered one for the second year.. but not all....

Hey IDoc2012, first off congrats on getting into SCCO! You won't have much trouble finding a 1 BR for $1200 or less here, but the majority of the apartments here are not all that new (but not bad either). I have some tips on finding apartments on my website here:

Hope this helps, good luck w/ the apartment search!

hmm, the link isn't working for me.. might just be my computer. I have some more questions, too. what is a first year's schedule like? is it "come and go" all day, or do they try to schedule it into one block? how many hours are you on campus a day? would a commute from irvine each day be unbearable? is the traffic going to be horrible at the times i need to drive to campus and home? is there a website or forum to talk to scco students about buying their old books/equipment? what books am i actually going to need? i suppose that is all for now, but i am sure i'll have more questions later! THANKS AHEAD OF TIME!

first year schedule is usually 2 tests a week.. 8 or 9 on mon/thurs or tues/fri.... some of the lab sections are blocked all together (i think a is a good lab section for that) and the rest have 1-3 hour breaks in the afternoons before some labs. you are usually on campus 4-5 hours in class and maybe 2-3 hours in lab most of the days of the week. i personally could never stand to commute ... i just hate the traffic but its definitely possible.. esp first year.. after that it gets a lot tougher because you have to be in the pre-clinic to practice a lot and you will end up having to come back several nights a week to practice late after the labs are done. umm i think usually you can get some books from people when they start emailing you on the class listserve (but if you are interested in some stuff i prolly have some stuff to sell you)... in terms of books you need i would say mostly stuff like the lab atlases/manuals and bailey's psychophysics book and the business aspects book. let me know if you need anything else and if you wanna buy any of my stuff.. i pretty much have a lot of my old stuff...
