Hey, anybody out there applying to SCCP (South Carolina College of Pharmacy)? I am, for the USC campus. I sent application in months ago, only had an email about a month ago that everything was complete. Has anyone gotten an interview yet or heard anything? I'm very interested since this is my state school. Thanks!

I called the admissions office the other day and Sue said that they don't start interviewing until January. Good luck.

Yes I do. I know people have gotten in with PCATs in 70s there. I think if you mark you'll go to either campus it will improve your chances slightly. I've heard Columbia fills up first.

Yes I go to SCCP- Columbia Campus. I had like a 3.2 GPA, and 76 PCAT and got in, but I also hold a BS in Chemistry from Clemson already. Columbia itself is huge, but we never leave the building really. Food places are really close to the Pharmacy building (ie, Russell House, Moes, Firehouse subs). I was used to Clemson, so Columbia is definitely a change. I'm happy I chose the Columbia campus. There is a definite difference in learning styles between the USC & MUSC campuses. It seems like its more relaxed (probably more retail than clinical people) in Columbia, as opposed to MUSC which there seems to be a lot more questions asked (seems to be more clinical than retail). Of course that is simply my opinion, and it could change from year to year. On your application if you choose a campus, you will be considered for that campus and if you aren't chosen when it is filled up then you go into running for the other campus and see where you line up. At least that's what I was told. Hope this helps

cutiger, how much of the instruction is via televised live instruction?
I'll tell you where most of the instruction comes from (I'm in Columbia)

Clinical Apps & Calculations - Taught individually at each site
Pathophysiology -A little over half from MUSC
Biochem- Mostly from USC
Intro to Pharmacy - Mostly USC
Microbiology - All from MUSC
Pharmaceutics - Mostly from MUSC
Labs - At each site

*Most of the teachers will travel to MUSC or USC a couple of times to teach at the other campus.

How is the televised instruction working for you? Is it harder to understand and get your questions answered? What do you do if you have a question about a returned exam and the prof. is at the other campus?

Personally its not my favorite, but its not too bad. Sometimes its nice to be able and just sit back and not worry about having the teacher live. The powerpoints are shown up on the screen and the professors write directly onto them. There are microphones all over the room so if you speak up its not hard to ask a question. There are course coordinators at each site for each course. So if there is a question about the exam, you go to them first I assume and if needed then the other professor is contacted.

I am also applying to SCCP and I recently came across this thread. I am hoping to get into the Columbia campus since I'm from Columbia but I put that I would attend either one. I have a few questions about the interview...When did you hear that you'd gotten your interveiw and about when did you finish your application? Also, are they all held in Charleston or can you interview in Columbia as well? Thanks and good luck to everyone!

I completed and submitted my application October 4th.

My application was finished on 12/1 but my letters did not get finished until around the 1/8. I currently go to USC but would really like to get into Charleston since all my friends are moving down there. Does anyone know if it is better to get an interview in January or does it not matter?

Interviews are done on Mondays and Fridays. I was given interview options on Jan 26th, 30th, Feb 2nd, or the 6th. I was told there was no interview on the 13th, meaning first rounds are done by then, or the office is just closed because of Lincoln's birthday (the 12th). My sister is an alumni and she interviewed really late because she had another interview that conflicted her earlier option. She told me late Feb or early March, but didn't remember exactly. It is better to interview early because schools traditionally interview more qualified students first because those are the ones they want, but you can still get in later. Because you turned in your app late in the cycle, they probably haven't finished completely reviewing it. If you haven't already, look at: http://www.musc.edu/es/application/sccpprogress.html

It is true that they interview the stronger candidates first. However, they only accept a VERY small percentage of people during early February. We were told that they truly get down to accepting high numbers at late February/Early March because by then they have a better idea of what the applicant pool is like and more people to rank against.

Well I got an interview for the 26 th and I was just wondering about when they were starting the interview process. I did not know if this was early in the process or late. They also told me at 12:15 in reply to an older post.

I had my interview at MUSC on January 30th and they told us that they were going to interview about 110-120 people but I have heard from others that they were told numbers up to 200... this changes to odds a whole lot when it comes to your chances of getting in obviously.

Leaving my interview I was pretty happy thinking that with only 110ish people being interviewed and 80 accepted that I would have a pretty good shot no matter how I did (and I thought I did well) but if it is actually 200 people getting interviews then that changes the odds to below 50%.

So I was wondering if anyone else has some insight on this or if they told any other groups how many people they were calling for interviews just so we might be able to get a better idea here...

has anybody heard from MUSC from the group who interviewed on the 26th? I got accepted to South University and have to put my seat deposit down by next Wednesday. I would rather go to MUSC since it is closer to family and friends. Does anybody know about how early they let us know who got in?

I interviewed at USC campus yesterday and the interview went really well. It is very relaxed, you just have about 20 minutes with one professor one on one and 20 minutes with another and then you're done. You can schedule a tour if you want, but I didn't. The interview is more like a conversation. Just be prepared to talk about yourself and share your story. They told me I should find out in a couple of weeks. Good luck to everyone!

They told us when I interviewed on the 16th at MUSC that they send out VERY few letters in the first half of february and that most people would find out in late feb. / early march. good luck everyone.

Just relax. That is the biggest thing I would say. SCCP's interviews are very laid back and conversational. They HONESTLY just kinda wanna get to know you better and they are most def. not out to grill you with hard questions. good luck.

I called MUSC today and they said first acceptance letters may go out at the end of next week and I asked whom they typically accept this early and she said probably the top 20. She also said the admissions committee would be meeting weekly from now on. Just a little update for those of you who may wanna know.

i interviewed on the 13th at musc, so still waiting. how much did they ask the students accepted at charleston to deposit (if at all they were asked to deposit anything)?
and any current student at charleston, how would you rate the cost of living plus are intern jobs readily available, and how much do they typically pay?
