I am not majoring in one of the sciences and I am wondering if scheduling prereqs like this is accepted. My school is on the quarter system.

Spring 2010 - Take one quarter of Biology
Winter 2010 - Take one quarter of Biology
Spring 2011 - Take one quarter of Biology

Would that satisfy the full year that is required or must they be taken consecutively?

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure (I'm new), but it seems as long as they're on your transcript you should be fine. Though the pre-med requirements are offered at pretty much every school all the time, I'm sure they're aware of potential scheduling conflicts and probably wouldn't mind that you didn't take them consecutively.

😵 Wouldn't you need one more quarter to make it a year?

A quarter unit is the same as 2/3 of a semester unit. So three quarters is the same as a year of semester long courses.

The summer quarter is optional. Fall, Winter and Spring is the full academic year. I may take some of the prereqs during the summer quarter. Do schools have any opinion on whether you take the courses during the summer as opposed to the fall, winter or spring? thanks

Yes, 3 quarters = 1 year, and it doesn't matter if one spreads them out.

I don't think it matters as long as you take the classes at your UG and not a CC. CC's tend to be viewed as easier. I'd assume lots take classes over the summer because of scheduling issues.

I asked my school about the summer class thing, and they said to only take one of your "pre-med" classes (so like Physics 1 and 2, Gen Chem 1 and 2, orgo, etc) over the summer. But summer classes are better than CC classes for sure...semester classes may be marginally better than summer classes, but I don't see the rationale (other than the fact that it's the summer, and sitting in a classroom sucks).

Anybody have any tips on which science courses to take first, second, etc.?

For example, should I take Bio first, then Chem, how should I schedule it? What classes should be completed before I take the MCAT?
Thanks

Generally people do this:
Fresh: Gen bio, gen chem, calc
Soph: orgo
junior: physics

Since you are not a science major, only real suggestion is gen chem before orgo. You should complete bio, gen chem, orgo and physics before the MCAT. There will be no calc on the MCAT but some schools do have a math requirement.
