hey i was just wondering where i can get some info on scholarships---and which schools usually give em out---and finally do i got the stats to get one--i don't know how competitive dschool scholarships are-thanks

I know there are more scholarships available for current dental students than for matriculating dental students. Pacific offers scholarships to accepted students based on GPA and DAT scores. Some of them are pretty significant. I've heard of other schools like Penn and NYU offering scholarships as well. With your GPA, I'm not sure you'd qualify for one at Pacific, but I could be wrong. I'm not privy to the GPA cutoffs for scholarships.

Baylor gave me money to pay for my tution (5400). San Antonio offered me 2 grand. And houston doesn't give any scholarships. If they did then they didn't offer them to me.

Penn hands out scholarships that take 50% off of your tuition. They use them as recruitment devices and you need to have some pretty high numbers to catch one.

Iowa gives them to ALL non-residents. Half or Quarter tuition.

The catch...getting in.

case gives 10,000-20,000 starting at 3.8+ and 20's across the board.

I think when i applied i had a 3.97 GPA. It went down substatially after i got in. I started to not take finals and some test if i knew it was enough for me to pass. My AA was 21 and PAT was either a 16 or 15 (texas dental school doesn't care about PAT). They will give you the aid package with your acceptance letter. Basically, you only get scholarships from these school if you are a first round applicant. At baylor it ranges from 2000 to 5400 i think. I also had around 1800 hours of volunteering and a few hundred hours working at a dental office. But they don't care about that stuff for scholarships, its all stats.

I think the best resource for scholarship info is your financial aid office... but Googles is pretty good too... in my search for scholarships, loans and other aids for D-school... here's a couple that I thought was worth looking at:

Health Service Corps Scholarship offerred by the Health Resouces and Services Adminst. They pay for tuition and fees plus give you a monthly stipend ...I think it's like 1,187 or so dollars ...in return ... you agree to work in an underserved community in the US.... "underserved" status is determined by their organization... you work one year for every year you get the scholarship...for more info on this: http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/

Theres the military scholarship... which is basically like the above but you have to serve your term in the military...and I think you have that additional years tagged in reserves...

Another option is to check out each individual schools database of scholarships... they seem to have alumni donated/ established scholarships....and that includes scholarships for incoming freshmen... that show excellent scores...

I'm sure theres more that you will find in your search ...i'll let you all know if I get any additional info...hopefully you all do the same.

ON another note... does anyone know of any private lenders that may have Alternative type loans for students with little, No , or Bad credit?
