Hi everyone! Congratulations to those who are hearing back on their acceptances! I am noticing some people’s posts saying they got accepted and got scholarships and am curious to know more about this. I was under the impression that pre-Health programs (med school, dental school, vet school etc) strictly do not offer any sort of scholarships/money (merit-based), and the only way you can pay for it if you can’t afford it is by taking out loans. I guess that’s not the case since people are getting scholarship letters along with their acceptance letters. Can someone please explain how these scholarships work? Approximately how much money do the dental schools give (I know it does differs from person-to-person, but a rough idea)? Is it a lump-sum or your get an amount per year/per semester? Are there specific schools that are more open to scholarships than others? I am applying next cycle, and it would be amazing if I would be able to get scholarships so I want to do everything I can right now to increase those chances. I appreciate the help! Congratulations again to those who are accepted, and hang on tight to those who are still waiting to hear back from schools!

I received some scholarships along with my acceptance. I cannot speak to the way schools made these decisions but for the schools that I received scholarships to I believe that it was part merit-based and partly to offset the increased cost of tuition that I would have to pay as an out of state student. During my interviews, most schools did say that they offered merit-based and some offered diversity scholarships with scholarships ranging from a couple thousand dollars to $40,000 per year. I did not receive any scholarship for my in-state school but for other schools I received scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 each year for attendance and one school gave me a $20,000 scholarship only for the first year of attendance (this is an OOS school for me and they offer IS tuition after the first year). I can only speak to my experience, individual schools will be better resources for the scholarship process! Hope this info helps a little!!

Do you mind telling me if they included the scholarship amount within the same email as the acceptance? or is it normally sent in a separate one later on?

They told me with my acceptance phone call how much I would be receiving and then I received an email of acceptance from the school after that with a separate email for scholarship- the scholarship email was sent to me within a few hours of the acceptance email.

Wow, that’s a great amount of money- far more than I expected to be honest! I guess it makes sense that state schools are already cheaper so they’re not going to offer many (if any) scholarships. Do you mind sharing what your stats were when applying (GPA, DAT, ECs) and what schools offered you scholarships? I really want to try to limit the amount of loans I need to take out and try to get as many scholarships as possible, so it would be super helpful to know where I stand at the moment and try to increase my chances if I can! Thank you for sharing your experience though!

I was offered a scholarship at UPenn and Michigan for all 4 years and then at UCLA for the first year until I would receive in-state tuition.
PM me for my stats, please! I'm not totally comfortable putting them up on a public forum!

I received a scholarship (totally unexpected) at my in-state school, for academics/leadership it said. It came in the mail with my acceptance letter. The website says they offer scholarships ranging from $5000-$20000 a year and mine was between there. According to the letter, it is renewable, provided I maintain a 3.25 and stay in good standing with the school.

I’m super pumped about it because, again, I was not at all expecting it!
