I did a quick search and surprisingly couldn't find anything on scholarships into med school (or I just didn't look hard enough). By scholarships I mean full paid academic scholarships (if there is even anything other that that).

There's no way in hell I'd ever be able to get a scholarship but I was just wondering because one of my mothers coworker's son got a full scholarship to Duke.

There seem to be a lot of smart people in here, anyone in somewhere on a scholarship? What qualities allowed you to get a scholarship, was it strictly gpa/mcat? This may sound like a dumb question but do you apply for a scholarship or do they come to you?

Peace and chicken grease

There is a military scholarship (air force, navy, army) that pays your full tuition plus stipend per month. Only thing is though you have to serve in the service for the amount of time you recieve the scholarship. 1 year of scholarship=1 year service.

There is also a similar deal one where if you promise to go into primary care they give scholarship plus stipend. If you don't end up going into primary care, you re-pay what you got.

That was surprising? Who of all people would be best suited to pay down $120,000 in loans? Somebody with a huge income! Who would give away free money to someone who's going to being breaking the bank when their paychecks start rolling in? I wouldn't!

Hey Prowler--

Your avatar scares me 🙁 :scared:

A lot of schools have scholarships that they don't advertise.

Generally speaking, after you are accepted to a school they send you a financial package with scholarship aid or eligibility for scholarship included.

I've heard that it is pretty rare to get scholarships unless you're URM with "need". Merit based scholarships I think are very rare. There are some schools, like U Miami, that seem to be courting out-of-staters with scholarships based on merit, need and diversity. They apparently gave approx 10K to every out of staters last year. Waiting to hear their offer this year.
