I'm just curious if any of you out there are trying to get scholarships and if you are successful. I use fastweb.com, which is very useful with informing me of scholarships that I might qualify for. I have spent hours upon hours (sacrificing studying time) writing essays for these things and then never hear back anything about them.

Has anyone out there applied and won scholarships? If so, is there any trick that you have that you feel allowed you to win it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Good Golly Gee Jums... this post went to the bottom of the pile really quick. I know that we've got a slew of intelligent people on this board. Do you mean to tell me that none of you have applied and/or received scholarships for this gi-normous education that we are pursuing?

I just found out that I don't qualify for a BIG scholarship because I got my bachelors degree in 98 rather than since 2001. ouch.

I hesitate to reply to any post that contains "good golly jee jums"... however, I digress.

I received multiple scholarships mainly due to academic achievements, these were provided by my province / university that I attend. I would be very hesitant about applying to any "online" scholarships, I'd estimate ~90% are completely dubious. I think you should just contact the schools to which you're applying, or the school which you currently attend regarding scholarship information/requirements, many even have this information posted on their website.

I would seriously avoid pursuing online scholarships, it seems like a monumental waste of time especially if you have other important things going on, i.e school.

Sorry this post is short, I have a patient interview shortly - however, to recap:

Spend more time studying
Research the schools you attend/ or will attend and contact them for definitive information
Avoid a lot of internet scholarships. The only way I could see this being useful is if they link you to a website which is based on the scholarship (i.e a memorium).

Anyway, it seems like you're working hard - just change directions somewhat. Good luck.

I appreciate you taking time away from your patient interview to respond to my post. That is most generous of you.

If you knew me personally, you would understand the "good golly..." If we take life or ourselves too seriously, what is the point to anything? 🙄

I have already gone through the school that I am currently attending. That is where I found out about FastWeb. FastWeb IS a site that links me directly to the websites that offer scholarships.

With a 4.0 gpa currently, I feel that I have been spending "enough" time studying and most likely have my priorities in proper order.

I suppose the purpose of my post was more to find out specifically what it is about your application to a scholarship that is resulting in your winning the scholarship. Is it volunteer activities, grades, degrees, ethnicity, etc... You stated your "academic achievements" were the basis of why you won certain scholarships. What more could I do specifically to increase my academic achievements?

Chris

DUDE YOU HAVE A 4.0 HOW MORE CAN YOU IMPROVE THAT?

I signed on to Fastweb and they are sending me a ton of spam.
I am very mad about that.
I almost started to pursue some of the scholarships, but I knew that it was going to take long, so I put it off.
Now I was going to revisit that,
It would be very nice if anybody had any luck applying to these, they would share their experience,
because the way I see it FastWeb should be called FASTSPAM 😡
Maybe we should ask this in the Pharmacy forum...
