School colors on tie during interview: smart, corny, or both?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The school colors of the school you're interviewing at.

Thanks for requesting the clarification!

Depends on the colors... If it/they are normal colors for neckties, then yeah, sure. If it's orange or light blue or something not typical, then it definitely has the potential to work against you -- though if it's your alma mater, it probably won't.

But aways wear orange and black if interviewing at Princeton Medical School. 😉

Oops, i wore a light blue tie to like half my interviews. Didn't realize that was atypical 😕. Well too late now haha

If a tie keeps you out of medical school it wasn’t meant to be, my friend. Though it could get expensive if you get a lot of interviews. I did sport my blue suit at UTSW 😉

Why limit yourself to a tie? Borrow your dad's jacket and let everyone know you are a Princeton Medical School legacy!

I personally don't wear neck ties on my interview days because they don't allow me to show as much chest hair.
We actually had an MD/PhD candidate do this, complete with gold medallion!

Definitely corny - but much worse crimes have been committed on the interview trail.

Anyone who would hold something like that against an applicant, needs to take themselves less seriously.

*sigh* Only at gyngyn's school. I swear I won't be surprised if he reports that someone interview naked.
Do you remember that show on TLC from a few years ago, What Not To Wear? @gyngyn could do his own version of the show dedicated to medical school interviews. Or better yet, he could just publish a photo book of all the insane outfits applicants at his school have worn over the years. 😀

I wore my blues to all my interviews. I must have gained a couple pounds or something between the second and third interview, because it was a little tight and rode up my crotch when I was sitting. So during both of the actual interviews, I kept having to fix my wedgies lol. I actually said something because I thought they might think I was just really nervous or something. I said something like, "Sorry I'm fidgeting so much, but this uniform was really not designed to be worn while sitting!" They both laughed really hard and told me they sympathize and wouldn't hold it against me lol.

Actually some guy did just but was rejected. Just spend his hanging out at the intro sessions and didnt standup to the competition. In several metrics he didnt measure. Sounded good on paper but on closer inspection just no meat on them bones. His scores were little low and they told him to get it up.
No way I'm competing with the Prince of Punnery on this one. The Emperor has no clothes here, and that's the naked truth.

At PLFSOM (Texas Tech El Paso), they have had a vending machine in which you could purchase a red, Texas Tech emblazoned necktie. I thought at the time, hmmm, what if I get an invite to Texas Tech Lubbock and wore this? 😀
