I know, I know, without my June 30 MCAT score this is largely moot. Just looking for some advice on schools real quick.

PA resident, non URM male

Majored in History with minors in bio, Middle East studies, Jewish studies
3.39 sGPA
3.55 cGPA (I did a DIY post bacc of 24 credits to finish my pre reqs while working part time. 4.0 in this pre req including gen chem 1 and 2, orgo 2, biochem 1, physics 1 and 2)
June 30 MCAT pending score. Averaged 510 on AAMC FLs. Felt pretty good but who knows. Expecting 506-510

Very strong ECs. Tons of TAing, was an RA, 2000 volunteer hours in a leadership role, published research. Worked in healthcare last few months as a PCA in radiology/ED.
Shadowed 3 DOs. Got to see tons of OMT in an underserved health clinic and some methadone group treatments. Have 2 DO LORs, 2 science (orgo 2 and biochem 1) and 2 of my former Mid East profs who I had strong relationships with.

Basically just trying to gauge where I'm at. I know its a rare sentiment on here but I actually thought OMT was really cool and would be thrilled to go to DO school. Long story but my original plan in college was to do a stint in the military then go to med school. I got hung up on some medical clearances during which time I finished my pre reqs and decided I want to go for this now. With that said I definitely want to apply to USUHS and HPSP (one of my DO LORs is from a physician in the military).

Is it even worth applying MD? I'm filling out AACOMAS now and just curious if my GPAs disqualify me to pursue MD. Again, I'm very excited to apply to DO schools, just curious in terms of keeping options open and applying to state MD schools for proximity to aging parents and such.

DO school list:
PCOM
NYITCOM
CCOM
Western CA
Western OR
OSU
MSU
AZCOM
NOVA
LECOM
OUHCOM
ROWAN

Please throw in any more where I may be competitive. I just want to go to a reputable school, don't care where and tuition will be something I worry about later when exploring HPSP.

Thanks for any input and good luck to all those applying.

If you score 505+, you'll be golden for any D.O. school. Regardless, I suggest looking at the in-state vs. out-of-state matriculate rates for the schools on your list. You have many schools with heavy in-state bias (e.g. OSU, Rowan, etc.). 90% of students at these schools must be in-state residents. This leaves only 10% of the class for out-of-state applicants (this ranges from 10-15 seats depending on class size). Obviously, your chances are slim. Do some research and apply smart.

Unless you score 512+, your chances for M.D. are slim. Your GPAs are far below the average. It may be worth a shot to apply to your IS M.D.'s, though.

Of course your chances for M.D. and your D.O. school list can change drastically depending on your MCAT. It's best to wait until your score is released before you start compiling a list for anything.

Good luck.

Thanks man, was wondering about the OOS odds for MSU and the like. Appreciate the perspective.

I have very similar cGPA and sGPA (for AMCAS, definitely a lot higher for AACOMAS).
If your MCAT is MD average (508), I would consider only IS MD, 512+ and I would consider low tier + IS.

Unless you're in-state, don't bother with Rowan, Oklahoma State, Texas UTHSC, Ohio Heritage, NYIT, Michigan State, or Pacific Northwest. Also, UNE isn't exactly falling over themselves for people outside New England.

If you've ever been arrested for anything ever (even including expunged juvenile arrests without convictions), don't bother with Campbell, who will throw out your application immediately.

If you have a high (for DO) MCAT (508+), be sure to apply to AZCOM, CCOM, and Touro NY/CA.

If you speak fluent Spanish, be sure to apply to Nova Southeastern and LECOM Bradenton.
