What is your state of residence? What Hispanic group to you represent? Your GPAs are awfully low for MD school. Nice recovery on your MCAT retake but be aware that AMCAS recs that schools average multiple MCAT scores. Some do and some don’t and we don’t have a way to know for sure. In any case, all of your scores are seen by the reviewers.

I wouldn't say "don't bother applying" to MD schools lol, but your list is certainly shooting for the stars. Drop the UC schools probably and JH. the other ones I don't know their stats off the top of my head, but they are prob too high for you. There will be some more educated members commenting soon, I'm sure. Loma Linda is definitely a shot for you, but research the school a lil more before you commit...

I would go calculate your LizzyM score and check the list it generates. Here's the link: LizzyM Score Calculator - What are my chances for medical school?. It predicts you have about a 50% chance of being accepted to an MD school based on simply MCAT, GPA, and Race, and spits out a list of schools within your range. Don't just apply to the schools it gives you, but find ones that focus on service and/or diversity, I would say. Your cGPA is going to be lower than any of their mean GPAs, most likely, but your MCAT will be close or higher than a few, so pick those schools to apply to granted they seem interesting to you.

Finally, as another commenter said, apply to more DO schools. You are a prime candidate for DO. Your real-world experience and Postbacc will definitely help you, as well.

Apply broadly to DO schools and you should receive interviews. I suggest these schools:
TUNCOM
AZCOM
ATSU-SOMA
UIWSOM
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT-ARK
MU-COM
PCOM (all schools)
LECOM (all schools)
WESTERN
TUCOM-CA
CHSU-COM
UP-KYCOM
WVSOM
For MD schools you could try these ( I am assuming you are a CA resident)
Kaiser
California University
Loma Linda (if you fit their mission)
UC Davis (if CA resident)
UC Irvine (if CA resident)
UC Riverside If you are a CA resident from that region)
TCU-UNT
NOVA MD
Vermont
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Drexel
Temple
George Washington
Oakland Beaumont
Medical College Wisconsin
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Rush
Creighton
Wright State

I’m a CA resident which is why I’m applying heavily to my state schools. Yea my gpa is horrible and unfortunately no matter how many classes I take I won’t make a difference. My last 60 units have had a 3.8+ gpa and my overall gpa will not budge

Thank you! Your post was very helpful, and yes I’m a CA resident 🙂

My concern is the relatively low number of shadowing hours. I agree the OP isn't completely out of luck with MD programs but should choose schools where support is strong. Check with AMSA, SNMA, and LMSA chapters for some insights at the schools near the top of the list and any in-state schools. Make sure you know how your postbac grades will be viewed.
