Hi there! I took the MCAT on June 30th and obviously, this means I won't have my score in until August 1st. However, I would like to submit my primaries sooner than August 1st. I expect a score anywhere from a 504-507 (probably 506). My cGPA is 3.43 and sGPA 3.28. Other stuff: biomedical research, shadowing, clinical volunteering/ Job experiences, singing extracurricular, innovation minor, LORs etc. I go to school in Florida.
Thanks for all and any help!!!
🙂

LECOM will accept an SAT/ACT score instead of an MCAT score to get your application process started
I'm confused...I'm just trying to get my primaries in so I can get my secondaries submitted after I receive my MCAT score. Are you saying I shouldn't submit primaries till after August 1st?

I would recommend you not to submit primaries before you got your MCAT score.
Sometimes you guesses your scores but your guess might just be wrong.
I've seen a person who guessed himself would get a 508, but he actually ended up a 492 (I'm not kidding).
On the other hand, I've seen a person supposedly to get a 505-510 but ended up a 514.

Only after you got your score, you then can have a good understanding about where are you.
BTW, DO school cycle is slower compared to MD school. Submit your primaries in Aug shouldn't be a big deal at all.

I disagree with above poster. Submit to one school you have no desire of going to in order to get verified. If you submit come August 1st, you may not get secondaries until mid-late September. Although the DO cycle is longer, and this isn't late for that cycle, the earlier the better still holds true.

I submitted primaries at the end of September and had five interviews before xmas. And my application wasn't even that great.

Just wait. It's gonna be okay.

What advantage does OP have in waiting? I'm asking for myself as well as I thought the conventional advice is to submit to one throwaway school.

Not wasting money in case you don't have the score you want. It only took a few days to get verified for me. I don't get the point of a "throwaway " personally. Doesn't save all that much time (at least it didn't for me).

Maybe it's a bigger deal on th MD side where having your application complete at the beginning of August is a bad thing. But late for DO is like October and that's really only for the more competitive ones like pcom/kcu tbh.

I would still recommend submitting to one reach or throwaway school OP. When you submit your application is one of the only things you can actually control during the application cycle. If you have the $50 extra and your application is complete besides your MCAT score, there's no reason not to get verified earlier.

I'm confused, does this mean you can add schools after primaries are submitted? I'm just confused with reach/throwaway school meaning. How would this work exactly? And I don't mind submitting earlier for that much extra.

Yes. Once you submit your application, it usually takes 2-3 weeks to be "verified." Once you're verified, schools you send your application to will receive it. The overwhelming majority of SDN members will tell you that if you take a late(ish) MCAT, you should submit to one "throwaway school" in order to get verified. This way all you have to do is add your MCAT to your application once your score is released and add all other schools. By submitting your application to one school you have no desire of attending, you're not really risking "rejection" due to no MCAT (because you had no desire of attending there in the first place) and allowing your application to be verified while you wait for that MCAT score.

Hey I took June 30 too! This is what I'm doing:

I'm applying to a "throwaway school" in order to get my transcripts verified now. AACOMAS only begins the verifying process when you've filled out the whole app and applied and paid for the app for at least one school. This process can take up to 4 weeks per AACOMAS website. So, applying to one school you feel confident you would be competitive at with a range of MCAT scores now will get you verified before your scores come out. That way, once you know where your MCAT stands, you will be able to apply immediately to target schools since your app is already complete as far as AACOM is concerned.

The other posters are right, too. DO cycle is longer and you're still competitive if you just do this all in August when your scores come out.

I'm not applying to all my target schools yet since it is possible my vibe of the MCAT was totally off and I bombed it. If you apply to schools now, end up getting a bad MCAT on August 1st, then you will technically be a reapplicant there next year.

Hey do whatever you guys think will help your anxiety because I know it really is overwhelming. But just keep in mind that the first program you apply to is $195. The subsequent ones are $45. If you have the money then go for it. Can't really put a price on piece of mind I guess. But if it will be a struggle to scrape together the money for an mcat retake, you may want to consider all your options.

Best of luck to everyone applying. You can do it!👍

So what type of school should I apply to? Do you just research schools with an mcat range you think is fine?

I got a loan so I have some money to use for this.

I applied to ACOM because I feel like the rest of my app could get me in there if I did significantly worse on the real MCAt than my last FL (510). I also applied there because regardless of what my MCAT ultimately is I would definitely go to ACOM. So I guess my advice would be to apply to a school you feel confident you would be competitive at that you ahve a genuine interest in.

Sorry this is news to me.. I knew the first "throwaway" would cost $195, but you're saying if you apply all at once it's cheaper somehow? Like for the successive schools? I apologize if these questions are worded poorly I'm still fried from the CARS section on Friday.

No. Your application cycle will cost $45 more total by applying to this throwaway school than if you only applied to schools you're 100% interested in going to.

There's a reason it's called a "throwaway school." Don't apply to a school you have a shot at or want to go to because you don't want to risk being an auto-reject with no MCAT score lol.

No. Perhaps I was unclear. The first school is $195 no matter what. Each subsequent school is $45. I'm personally advocating for not applying to a throwaway because if the MCAT comes back and it's not competitive for anywhere then you just wasted $195.

Coltuna is correct in stating that the cost of your entire application cycle increases only by $45 by applying to a throwaway only if the MCAT comes back competitive.

There's also the small possibility that the MCAT comes back pretty high and makes OP competitive for MD. Having it that late is DOA for MD and they're waiting a year with a wasted $195.

Again, if the money isn't that important to you then just spend it.

No possibility for MD with my GPA lol but I'm not applying MD anyways... . Honestly I'll b less concerned about the $200 if it comes back that low. But I don't want to mess with my chances for the next round if it did come to that...

I'm super paranoid about that 492... Like did something happen during the exam?! Did they manage to fix their situation? I'm having bad dreams I got a super low score like this

Same thing happened to me. It was the old test mind you, but I was getting 28-30 (67-70 percentile)on all my practice tests. Ended up with a 23 (37 percentile). The first section rocked my world and destroyed my confidence for the other two. I was on the verbal section and still thinking about that ridiculous physical science section. Verbal has always been my highest section, but I got so psyched out I got 6 in that section (I think that's a 123 on the new scale but I'm not sure).

Reddit was blowing up about how ridiculous physical science was on that test. Ironically, I did fine on it. But I was so freaked out by that first section that I tanked the others.

The moral of the story is that you will likely see stuff on the mcat that you've never seen before. If you're well prepared, everyone else taking it that day will be feeling the exact same as you. In a lot of ways, you can be your own worst enemy on this thing. From your posts, it looks like you're well on your way to doing just that. Just know that no matter what the outcome, you will survive. So it's okay. You can always retake it if necessary. In fact, retaking is very common.

Don't let that thing crush your confidence mid test. That's the only reason for a big score drop. Hope this helped.
