Hi everyone,
I am a NY resident and prefer schools near or in NY
My stats:

~100 hours of shadowing
3.77 overal GPA
3.78 science GPA

DAT: AA23 TS23 PAT24 GC26 OC25 BIO22 RC18 QR22

I am still in the processing of considering what schools I should apply to

I have these in mind now but need a few (3 more?) more:

Stony Brook
Columbia
NYU
Buffalo
Rutgers
Tuft
UPenn
Boston U maybe?
UCSF

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

congrats on your score...9 schools is prob more than enough. If your trying to stay close to home why ucsf?

I think i will need a list of 10 schools just to be safe, and cali is somewhere i want to go to school at besides ny

I really like how your sGPA is higher than your oGPA

Touro, if you don't care about the fact it's a brand new school. Nice location in NY.

I am not saying Touro is not good, but I don't really want to apply to brand new school since there is not much information about their program.

How about the Boston schools?

you mentioned BU but there is Tufts and Harvard ..... 3.5 hours away from NYC

I have Tufts on my list already.
I will get a direct rejection without interview from Harvard if i apply..lol

You think so? your AA is a little lower than their average, but your scores are pretty high and solid GPA... Plus Harvard looks at full applications ... i.e. - shadowing experiences etc etc ....
Can you walk on water? Always a plus😉

Also .... I would consider Temple if I were you

Honestly, maybe not. You never know.

Yea I never know, but one thing that i know is I don't need to go to a ivy league school for dentistry. As long as I am well-trained, I can be a good dentist still

I am just a little curious. Do you guys have any idea what an AA23 TS23 is like? I saw many people on SDN score higher than me...

It's in the 95th + percentile. There's THOUSANDS of people who take the DAT every year and the majority get around an 18.

If your looking to be a great general dentist you don't need to go to any Ivy League Dental School ... That being said going to an Ivy League school does make it more likely for you to specialize. Im not saying its impossible to specialize from a state school or any other school, its just less likely.
Looks at the specialization rates of the Ivy league schools and compare then to the state school. Ivy league schools have a much higher presence in the specialties than the non-ives.
As for your stats -- they are amazing, don't look at SDN as the american population -- its a subset of people that use this site. To add to that people who did well are more likely to post their scores -- simply for bragging rights.

Congrats on your GPA/DAT! How is your clinical/non-clinical experience? Also keep in mind that NYU is a really pricey school.

I would definitely give Harvard a shot; your GPA is just short of their average, but they favor research experience in applicants. So why not? You have an average amount of clinical experience. You could squeeze in some non-clinical work if you have the time (not essential, but only makes your application stronger).

i would think about it , thanks.

Lol wtf? if OP doesn't want to go to Harvard, don't force him to apply there. I think your original list looks great as is. I'd be extremely surprised if you didn't get into one of the NY schools

OP you and I are going to meet eventually in interviews, your school list has many schools I am applying to myself.
