  1. Pre-Medical
I'm developing my school list for applications and would like advice. Some of my stats:
CA resident
Year: Junior
Major: Nutrition Science
Minors: Biochemistry, Mathematics, Spanish
cGPA, sGPA: 4.0
Research: 2 years, exercise physiology lab, paper submitted for publication (not published yet)
Volunteering: few hundred hours at: a hospital, tutoring HS students, a shelter (abused, under-served population), and misc events
Shadowing: 100+ hours, various physicians
MCAT (not taken yet): 510 on AAMC scored test
Undergrad: public school, top tier research

I would really like to attend a CA medical school, but due to the competitiveness of these schools, I know this is difficult/unlikely. What are some schools outside of CA at which I might have a good chance? Any/all help is appreciated. Thanks!

Your GPA is fantastic, and your ECs definitely check out. Assuming you will score 510+ on MCAT I think it would not be unreasonable to apply to the CA schools, even top 10s.

edit: you might also find more help if you post this in the WAMC forum. they help people both develop and edit lists.

I'm definitely going to apply to all the CA schools, but I do not want to limit my applications to just CA. I need to apply elsewhere in case I don't get accepted in CA

I think you would have a good shot at most of the top 20s. Your stats are nice so I would say you have the freedom to apply wherever you like probably.

I would suggest you lurk a little on WAMC or something to get more familiar with these schools. UW is probably the only top 20 with a median MCAT below 515 (many are 518+) and there's no point in a CA resident applying to UW. Maybe they can throw in a few, but "good shot" is a bit optimistic.

OP, this would be better in WAMC.

Posted in WAMC. Thanks for the feedback!

Just curious, how do you know the median MCATs of the new test for these schools? I don't think they are on MSAR yet.

Oops. All that lurking and I still haven't gotten it down yet. I guess I was looking more at the GPA/ECs.
