Hey all,

Wasn't sure if I should put this in the MD forum, but here goes.

I'm applying for the upcoming cycle - my list currently consists of only DO schools.

- cGPA ~3.6. sGPA 3.55. MCAT 510. bio undergrad major w/ music minor.
~500 hours hospital volunteering
~750 hours non-clinical volunteering
3 years medical scribe experience in an ER (easily 1000+ hours) - w/ leadership experience
2 years undergraduate research (no publications)
and I'm spending my gap year continuing as a scribe in a small, private practice (not ER)

with my stats/experience, should I even consider applying to any MD schools or just stick with DO? any "lower-tier" MD schools that I should consider?

Thanks!

You re definitely competitive for MD and DO.

I'd apply to 3-5 DO schools that you have high interest in. The only schools I'd consider avoiding are the public DO schools, which are pretty tough to get into out of state.

In terms of MD, I think you're competitive at a number of programs. Buy the MSAR. It's $30 and really helpful.

What state you're from is important to help build your list, particularly for MD.

For DO, I agree with the above. Apply to like 5 schools that you really like. You're good for any school.

I had very similar stats and somewhat similar ECs. I applied all low tier MD and 5 solid DOs. Was accepted to my top DO choice and currently waitlisted for MD. You’ll probably do similar or have better luck. Post in WAMC and one of the SDN gurus will assist with a school list.

Thanks all for your replies. I'm from SoCal and am kind of itching to go out of state for school, but I'm open to anything. Just bought the MSAR and I'll post in WAMC for sure. Will probably end up adding more MDs to my list than I initially planned.
