i took organic chemistry 1&2 over the summer at "New College of California"
aint that some 5h!+
i got As in that course...i guess i have to take organic chemistry again?
If so, will I even be eligible to apply to med school this upcoming cycle?
And since I already applied for this current cycle, does that mean that I cannot become accepted if i was even given an invite to attend their med school?
this makes me wanna pull my hair out.
share some SDN wisdom with me guys...

Same thing happened to Rosalind Franklin University Medical School a few years back. It wasn't rumor either, I received a detailed notice from them that year when I applied through AAMC and subsequently withdrew my app.

"When they were Finch University, they were put on probation, so they changed the name, changed the curriculum, and a bunch of other stuff, and they were taken off probation some time in 2006. They are fully accredited right now."

Look at the bright side, maybe your former college will get things corrected and get re-accredited. 👍

Your work is still good from that school and still "counts" I'd bet.

Hi,
In my opinion (no facts to warrant it), I would think that you should be OK, because you attended the school while it was still accredited. The school lost its accreditation just in February, and if you were taking the classes at that time I think you would be in a bit more trouble, though.

I believe it depends on the program...ask.

In the event that your courses do not count, as long as you retake and finish the courses before matriculation, you are golden.

well you know what the real kick in the balls is all about?
its that i personally dont think i am going to get accepted this cycle...and have been prepping myself for an early application for this upcoming cycle.
however, in order to be an early applicant--i need to have my transcripts sent in to each of the schools im applying to.
when i go to send my transcripts, none of them will reflect that I have taken the Organic Chemistry series. Plus, there is no way I can send a transcript from a school that basically doesnt exist anymore. At this point, their home website is closed down and I havent heard back from them when i emailed them about my situation concerning transcripts.
anyways, How can i be considered an early applicant without officially having all of my premed courses tallied up on my transcripts???
the BEST i think I can do right now (in terms of applying for next cycle) is to take Organic Chemistry 1 at UC Berkeley over the summer. Then take Organic Chemistry 2 in the Fall of 2008.
**and I didnt even mention that I took my Gen. Physics courses back in 2001-2002! Which makes those courses more than 6 years old and chances are that quite a few schools will say that I took those courses too long for them to count for anything.
i hate being a 26 year old premed.
🙁

Being an early applicant means that you apply early. Applying early allows the admissions committee to have a look at you before the 1000s of other applicantions roll in. You will still be considered seriously even it looks as though you have not taken your Organic I and II classes. This issue may be something you should put in your essays, especially essays or sections which are open-ended ("What else would you like us to know?").

To improve your odds, I would improve your MCAT score to at least an 8 in each section, with emphasis on perhaps the biological sciences section. This may, in part, show to admissions committees that you have learned the organic chemistry, but it isn't reflected in your transcript(s).

The rest of your thought process is sound. Plan to take orgo over the summer/fall while waiting to hear back from schools. So, i.m.h.o., in terms of priority 1) Do well on your MCAT 2) Apply early 3)Take orgo this summer/fall (or later, if you so please).

No, we never lost our accreditation - put on probation. Came off probation in the first visit back, by the way. Get your facts straight.

I was accepted to several medical schools prior to finishing organic chem. All they do is send you a notice that you need to complete it before matriculation. It is not related to your acceptance (unless you have already taken it and did poorly.)
