I thought I was being very meticulous about the application process. I have a One Note page for each school with a checklist, relevant stats, contact info, etc. and I also have a color coded Excel spreadsheet I marked off as I completed even the smallest task for each school. I started this process somewhat in May, but in earnest in August.
Despite all this after I submitted my application, including transcripts, LORs, essay, and fee for a school that is strong research fit I see they required the Psych subject GRE. I have only taken the general GRE as I did not need the subject for any other school and I was a psych undergrad with a 3.9 major GPA. I chalk all this up to a $200 learning experience when Tuesday I get an email from the school. The email says they have are giving me a grace period of two weeks to complete (submit my psych GRE scores) my application as they are excited about my application. I reply saying I was excited to apply, but my oversight has left me with no subject test score and it's not offered again until April. Their reply was that they are willing to either overlook the subject test absence or defer my app until next year when I can submit subject test scores.I told them to please review it for this year as long as it will not impact me re-applying for 2017.
My question is was this a good choice, or will I now be seen as the type of student who is not careful and expects exceptions and taint my application for this year and possibly for next?

The choice has been made so it doesn't really matter what anyone's opinion is at this point. If you get admitted, then you will forget all about it. If you don't then you will probably think you made the wrong choice. Personally, I had an incomplete application and I was accepted to a preferable program so I never bothered to complete it. Also, I didn't hear you asking for any special consideration. What I gathered is that you were acknowledging an oversight and attempted to remedy it.

The fact that you made a thread about this on a public forum tells me you will just be fine!

Thank you, I really appreciate your reply. It's great to hear from people who have been through this process.
I wanted opinions because at this point I still have the option of asking them to hold off on reviewing it until next year as I know they won't start the review until next week, but I'm just going to let them review it and whatever happens, happens and I can apply again next year.
