Hi all, to make a long story really short, in my junior year of undergrad I had been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. By this time I had only just begun my second semester of taking my prereq courses (the sciences) after a switch from another major and had been doing fine in my courses up to this point. Unfortunately, by the time the cause for my erratic behavior was diagnosed and treated the damage had already been done mentally and physically. As a result my grades have suffered as well.
It's been a good four years since then and I'm doing great now physically and mentally, even better than before in many ways. I've managed to keep my GPA and grades "above water" through it all so to speak, but accept the reality that my application is not as competitive in the applicant pool. My problem is also that I've refrained from discussing my illness in my personal statement for various reasons and realize now that it might've been a mistake on my part.

Does anyone know if there are any schools that are known to give greater consideration to these types of occurrences? Or in general more holistic in the way they approach your application?

Some look at your last 60 credits. I think Pacific University looks at your last 45 but I'm not sure.

Try applying to MCPHS. My GPA was on the lower end and they accepted me. Very good program.

st augustine is easier than others to get into. especially with last 60

I was accepted to AT Still in Mesa, AZ. I applied because I had a rough junior year as well and I met an admission counselor at my undergrad university who described their application process as very holistic and focused on service. They don't require the GRE as well if you have a 3.0 GPA or above. They said they tend to accept students with lower GPAs with a good record of service. Their OT program has a 2.75 GPA minimum for acceptance.

Thank you all. I will look into each of those programs. A.T. Stills and MCPHS, and St. Augustine( though not sure if S.A. requires the GRE's) are on my list now. Looks like Pacific's deadline was January 12. Best to all!

SA requires the GRE. Please also take note that A.T. Still requires a 2.75 overall SCIENCE GPA. Not just a 2.75 overall. My friend was unaware of this when applying and they didn't even take a look at the rest of her application.

Okay, thanks, definitely noted. It looks like I'm going to try to retake A&P I and II to see if I can spike that up this spring semester at a local community college.
