Due to various personal circumstances, I was only able to apply to the one school in my state. I made the alternate list, but was ultimately not accepted. This year, I can apply to a few out of state schools as well. I want to pick a couple that don't require interviews and a couple that do. Reasoning is keeping costs at a minimum.

Is there a list somewhere? If not, can you guys throw out schools that you know of that don't require and interview? Preferably west coast, but not picky... Thanks!

On the west coast, I know Chapman University does not require an interview. This is a private school though, so tuition will be more expensive than a state school which I'm sure you are already aware of, so if you are trying to save on costs this may not be the best option. As far as other schools, I am not sure.

CSUN doesn't. Western University in Pomona didn't require one a few years ago (not sure about now)

University of Puget Sound and University of Southern California do not require interviews.
Those are two I'm looking at, I'm sure there are a lot more that don't require them.

Thanks guys.. Puget Sound was one that I was interested in.

Keep em coming, if you know!

Many schools will do the interview over the phone if you are unable to go to the interview process - I know this from experience, as UCF was gladly to do the interview this way. I will say however, when looking at schools that just don't do interviews, I'd be very cautious about going to one of them. If you were running a program, and wanting to run a successful one that is producing PTs of high quality, wouldn't you want to get to know the students as much as possible before you accept them into your program?? Think about that.

I know for personal and financial reasons you don't want to have to travel to a bunch of different locations, and that's very reasonable. However, maybe what you need to do, is spend more time researching each school, finding out which ones are highest on your list, and then narrowing down your selection more so you are willing to go to and visit 1-3 schools.

If you want a quality education, you need to make sure you're taking the time to research the schools. It's a big investment, and no, not all PT schools are equal.

At least this past year, I believe that neither Western Carolina nor Winston Salem State University did interviews (based on GPA, GRE, essays, etc).

I never understood why some schools don't do interviews. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

The University of Florida doesn't do them either...maybe they will change that in the future, who knows. I do know that they're using PTCAS starting this coming year for the application process.

I asked that same question ("Why don't schools do interviews?") to some of the schools who don't do interviews (they do have open houses though... so if you're smart you can make the right connections and make that your interview 🙂 ).

It has to do with limited resources a good percentage of the time. The faculty are teaching, doing research, etc all while making decisions on who the next enrolled class will consist of. Doing interviews just adds more to their plates when they are already stretched thin enough.

That is why it's important to shine through on your essays. It's the one place they are going to get to know you.

Although, I agree... I think it makes for a better experience if they conduct interviews. Someone can have great grades, but may lack social skills. PT is a social profession where you're going to have to interact with people. Not to mention, the other students are going to be your classmates for the next 3 years... you'd like to think the faculty is choosing students who are going to be quality students.

It's not on the west coast but Northwestern University in Chicago doesn't have an interview. I do think that if the school doesn't have an interview, they see your social skills and personality through your essay, so make sure that shows through!

Western University of Health Sciences has started to require interviews. CSULB doesn't require them though. : )

Arcadia didn't have interviews when I applied there but that was a long time ago, so I'm not sure if that has changed.
