Hi all,

Hopefully someone could give me feedback. I have volunteer experience with Planned Parenthood. I was wondering if that might get me an automatic rejection from a DO school with religious affiliation should they find out (it looks like a few schools out there)? Thanks.

If you're talking about LUCOM or William Carey, I prob would NOT include it....prob wouldn't be an automatic rejection tho

Agreed with above user, prob best not to include it at those schools, but probs not an auto reject.

How do you not include it? It's part of your primary application.

Anyways, Planned Parenthood does more than abortions. No school will penalize you ( Save for LUCOM) and many will consider it effective experience.

If your experience is not specifically all about abortions, and more on wellness visits and birth control, than no one will have issues (even LUCOM). If you mention abortions, I feel like that is asking for trouble. Your going to turn every interview into an 'ethics' one. And I hate ethics interviews, nobody wins, and they waste peoples time for the most part. I would much rather talk about myself as a complete person than my views on a topic so narrow as abortion (although they are just looking for open mindedness on any of these topics).

I would include planned parenthood (cause that's definitely undeserved right there), but I would focus on what you did/shadowed, and leave out anything about abortions.

Probably only LUCOM. Don't know what MUCOM will think. You're fine at all others. So chill.

I included being in a pro-choice group on my primary app, and it was never brought up at any of my interviews - the religious schools I interviewed at were MUCOM and CUSOM. I think only LUCOM would care, and I doubt you want to go there anyways.
Plus don't most schools have a Medical Students for Choice chapter? I highly doubt that religious schools are trying to weed out pro-choice applicants.
