I was wondering what schools out there require some type of research or thesis for graduations? I know Duke does, and I just discovered that Einstein does as well (unfortunate, because I was going to apply there), what others are there?

I'm asking because I'm not really interested in doing research, and I don't want to waste my time & money applying to a school that has a research requirement that I don't know about.

Thanks!

didn't know einstein did... Yale does too.

Penn State COM

they have a medical student research program that is mandatory. you can be exempt with a previous master's thesis type work or co-authorship on a publication. i think it would be interesting

Harvard/HST requires a scientific thesis.
Harvard/New Pathway now requires something like Stanford's scholarly concentration.

I'd look more closely into the requirement before you exclude it from your list. Duke for example, you can get an MPH/MBA degree to count.

U Pittsburgh SOM

(If you want additional info on other schools in which you're interested, last year's MSAR lists whether or not research/a thesis is required under "Curricular Highlights." I'm assuming this year's does, too.)

A lot of schools are now requiring "Scholarly Projects". Michigan and Pitt come to mind. They're not necessarily research projects, though they can be. I was told at interview days that they're more of an "indepth paper on a topic of your choosing". Sure, it can (and many will) involve typical laboratory research, but they said that literature research or even shadowing physicians and writing a profound paper about your experiences/findings would suffice.

Thanks for the help, guys!

I guess I missed that section when I went through the MSAR and made my list of schools - I just went back and checked, and Einstein was the only school on my list that has a research requirement.

As I was flipping through the MSAR I learned that UPenn also has a research requirement (in case any else is interested).

It might be a wee late but this website helps.
