Hey, I was just wondering if someone who's actually been interviewed or accepted at some of these schools would mind sharing their stats - so i know if i'm wasting my time or not!

i'm a canadian who went to yale for college, and the places i interviewed myself at included stanford, yale, harvard, columbia, washu, NYU, vanderbilt, U. Chicago, Baylor, . I did not get an interview from UCSF. Harvard, columbia, yale, and stanford will foreign students scholarship money, most won't.

Aid:
Harvard, Columbia, Stanford and Yale

Scholarships:
CWRU, Wash U in St. Louis

Tuition break (for Canadians only?):
UCONN, in-state tuition starting 2nd year of med school

Adding UCONN. I believe that Chieka (a fellow Canadian) got into UCONN and it has been determined that UCONN will allow Canadian to pay one year of out-of-state tuition but switch it to in-state tuition starting second year.

As for Michigan State, I remember from a Toronto Star (?) report on Canadian health care and education system that mentioned a Canadian applicant who did not get accepted to a med school in ON and was forced to take his acceptance in the U.S. (hence another example of brain drain out of Canada). I believe that student is at Michigan State.

This list should also be helpful for students of other nationales on F-1 visa studying undergrad in the US (in general, there is no difference between how, say, Canadians and British are treated in terms of US med application).

By the way, is Canadian or international eligible for scholarship from Northwestern?

I hear that most private med schools in the US have a quota on how many int. students to take. Is this true?

Also, I am a Canadian who is applying to med school. It'd be great if canadians who have been interviewed or accepted at US schools can share their stats.

Thanks.

the interview process in the states will vary from school to school. THe interview at USC, which i now attend, consisted of 2 separate 1on1 interview. One with a faculty member and one with a student. Both are considered valuable input.
As for a quota. i don't know much about that. I am pretty much the only "real canadian" ie. i live in canada and did college there, in my class. there are a couple who were born in canada and have dual citizenship.
my stats were
13-15 on verbal, 11 on phys, and 10 on bio R written
and a gpa around 3.6
overall, i have loved the experience. its been great living down in LA and all that, especially during the winter months.

i would take UCSF out of the list. u have a better chance at harvard.

i got interviewed at UCLA applying as a foriegner who attended a canadian school. im not a canadian citizen.

dartmouth too.

anyways its not the nationality that matters when it comes to international applicants, but where u studied undergrad. if uve done it in the US or Canada, you are set.

just my 3 cents.

😉

bump for 2006 applications 🙂

I personally interviewed at Meharry, Saint Louis and Hawaii. It is tough for any non-Hawaiian to be accepted at Hawaii, so Canadians don't hold your breath. I am currently waitlisted at Saint Louis, so they will accept Canadians, but they want the full 4 years tuition put into an escrow account before they will issue you the paperwork for a student visa. Meharry also accepts Canadians (the admissions ppl told me at my interview) although I am not one, yet, because I haven't heard anything post interview.
