So, reading through the forums, I found a piece of info that is useful:
PCOM will let you test out of Histology as long as you had previously taken it and recieved a B or higher. You take an exam and I am assuming if you score better than a particular grade you are good to go. Once less class to fret over.

So my question is do any other schools do that? If so, which schools and which classes, etc?

Just curious!

My guess is that you won't find many. I asked OSU once if I could get out of taking the psychology / psyhiatry block since I have a degree in psychology and have obviously covered it. They said "no." I shrugged it off; easy A.

I think med schools want you to learn their own spin on the subject.

Bam! That's it exactly. Your school is responsible for preparing you for boards, so they want to make sure you have learned the info they think is important and that you have learned it their way. Honestly, I'm very surprised that PCOM would let you test out of histo as it's an important subject to have before you take path, but I guess they know what they're doing. Almost universally you have to have a PhD to get advanced standing in med school.

If you've had a subject before, just kick back and spend that time studying something else.

This is only one small class at PCOM. You can take the pre-test and if you score a certain grade (85 I think) you can opt out of the course and you are assigned the grade you recieved.

Unless things have changed, getting an 85 or better after taking the class (which consists of a few lectures) is not difficult at all. A few hours of work before the exam is really the key.

So the people who took the course ended up with higher average scores than the people who opted out.

The overall benefit was only a few additional hours of time over the course of a semester.

Not sure if it is stil run the same, but thats how it worked when I was MSI
