i have another quick question that i am sure someone can answer. i was looking on Nova's website the other day and saw something that made me think twice about it. in their handbook it mentioned something about wearing a shirt and tie, pants, and shoes while on campus mon-fri 8am to 5pm. if you get caught wearing something other than this then you get in trouble somehow. 👎 is this during your first two years or just clinical years. somebody please clearify that for me.
also if this is true, are there any other schools that do this too.

I don't have a problem with requiring "professional" attire. Even in the first two years, showing up to class looking like a pos isn't appropriate. You're out of college, act like it?

Now, a tie might be a bit much. Especially since it's no doubt predjudicial towards men. Do women have to wear a dress shirt and some sort of neck scarf?

At least one of the carib schools actually specifies that you WILL wear khaki trousers and a white shirt with a collar. Forget that!

at NSU the official policy is to wear shirt and tie as mentioned above OR you can wear scrubs to class since that is the professional attire worn in the hospital (have to bring your white coat around with you I think). When I interviewed at NSU almost every student was in scrubs, they are color coded based on discipline (med students wear light blue, dentists forest green, etc. - at least from what I remember).

I think LECOM has a dress code as well, don't remember any others.

yeah, chances are I will be wearing scrubs a lot to school and class, but I don't want to be forced to do anything I may not want to do........

So, I guess it is not that big a deal....I mean it shouldnt deter you from any school, I just didnt want Nova or LECOM telling me that I couldn't show off my good sense of style of baggy jeans and a tshirt...

I don't think dress codes are necessary for going to a lecture....I feel I am more adapt to learn when I'm more comfortable rather than in a tight collar around my neck....im probably going to go into class in pajamas

OSU-COM has a dress code also, but the requirements are fluid from year to year.

Last I heard, the options for men were dress or khaki pants with a polo or button shirt OR scrubs with a school-only shirt.

Needless to say, there are many people wearing full scrubs or scrubs with a school shirt.

Then again, the policy isn't very strict, and you will often find people not paying attention to it.

yeah, dress codes don't bother me at all cause I'm cool with going to school in scrubbs....saves on my clothing bills.

The most anal part I think is the mandatory attendance policy. Thats ok cause I'll have a lap top to keep me company in super boring lectures....and a beach to hit after the classes 🙂

VCOM has a dress code. No jeans and t-shirts. Professional type dress or business causual, except anatomy lab days where you can wear scrubs.

Oh and attendence is mandatory.

Here at COMP they really look down on coming to class naked....so you just need to make sure your leagal and its cool... in Anat. lab you must wear the coat and closed toe shoes etc.

😉

I've been campaigning over here at SOBSOM for the institutionment of japanese schoolgirl uniforms. I've been researching them online.

ha ha----mandatory attendance

suckers

I heard LECOM makes guys wear shirts, ties, and dress slacks. Girls have to wear formal clothes like a dress suit as well. I would hate it. :luck:

whattt....i would be down w/ wearing scrubs to class but dressing up just to go sit in a mandatory lecture? eek! amy, do people dislike that about vcom?

i dont think the color coordination is with all departments. i "believe" it to be dental students or what not. Osteo students can wear scrubs any color of their choosing.

btw, the attendance thing at nsu is a 👎, but oh well.

Suits at LECOM? NO WAY! Guys have to have shirt, tie, and dress pants (although I see cargo pants a lot)...Girls just have to be professionally dressed...honestly females can get away with almost anything except scrubs, sweatshirts, and jeans

What a drag. I am so glad KCOM has no policy of this nature. I am really excited to wear shorts and flip flops to school. BTW, mandatory attendance is a joke. It is my tution. If I decide to screw around, that is my opportunity cost. We all have to take the COMLEX or USMLE now (AOA mandate), so, who cares if I miss class or not? Oh, they are worried about their numbers? Yet again, what a drag. Sucks to be u guys. BTW, I have worked in the largest privately-owned investment bank in the world, and we didn't have to wear a tie.

I will start there in August so I am not sure, but the people I do know said they don't mind. The only time the attendence policy bothered folks is when it snowed and a number of people had minor accidents. So now during bad weather, a student can use their own discrection about coming in.

Does anyone know what schools, besides LECOM and VCOM have mandatory attendance policies?

So, a discriminatory policy against males? Men have to wear ties, and women don't have to wear something equally as obnoxious?

As I was walking flighterdog tonight, as I was putting his choke chain on that a tie is just another kind of a chokechain.

The case offered that I responded to said that "honestly females can get away with almost anything except scrubs, sweatshirts, and jeans". There doesn't seem to be a requirement that women wear panty hose.

Besides, you should wear stockings, preferably seamed.
