How does the degree offerings work out at the schools that havedual degree programs like DO/MPH DO/MS DO/MBA ?? Is it mandatory to do the dual degree program at their school? Can you just do the 4 year DO? I applied to NYIT yesterday and just noticed that all their DO programs are dual....... obviously i dont want to do a 7 year DO/BS there when i already have a BA.

how about Midwestern IL/AZ and the two ATSU's ??

kind of confused now

Yes it is true. If you look at the website, specifically nycom, you have to be approved after matriculation. You can add the dual program but you don't have to at any school.

Yes, I can confirm that for ATSU. Schools may structure their dual degrees differently such as some offering the masters portion of the dual online, some over the summer, etc. The masters can be quite pricey so it is an option if you have the interest and willingness to loan more money to complete them.

Dual degree programs are completely voluntary and require separate applications. Usually dual programs work by adding a few summer classes and an extra years worth of classes after your second year to your coursework. So for example, a DO/MPH usually starts with you taking a few courses over the summer between first and second year and then starts back up after your second year for an entire year. Following which you start your clinical rotations that other DO student would have regularly begun in their 3rd or 4th year.

The exception to this is are the DO/PHD programs, which are usually structured as an additional 3-4 years after your second year.
