For the sake of bordem and curiosity, which schools will have brand new buildings this fall? I know Wisconsin does, everything is now connected to the main hospital.

Iowa seems to be in a constant state or adding new buildings to their medical school and medical research. Having just recently completed the Medical Education and Biomedical Research Facility - beautiful, they are in the construction process for the Carver Biomedical Research Building. Unfortunately for the school the basic sciences are still housed in a 70's-ish building lacking any asthetic appeal.

UIC is putting the finishing touches on a new research building that will house basic biomedical and clinical faculty. It won't affect students much though, unless they work in one of the labs.

Yeah, I was thinking new school...like UW's building will house the med school and administration, some labs, library etc. The cadavers are still downtown though, so first year will involve taking a shuttle. I guess they have a cool system of moving them around through tunnels.

And I don't think anyone knows this, but at UW you can take gross anatomy during the summer before your first year with the PA's or whoever, it makes your year a lot smoother. I wonder if other schools do this

Wash U is completing a brand new education building, to be opening in the fall of 2005.

I learned that from reading that little brochure thingy that they sent to everyone. Did you learn about it from that too?

Loyola University Chicago Stritch SOM has underground tunnels that connect the new med school building to both the hospital and the gigantic, beautiful, lovely, new, wonderful gym.

kcumb jsut erected a new science research building and has begun to outfit the entire campus with wireless lan.

You are talking about U of Wisc, right? ...not MCW?

Every UC (California) is constantly being worked on. They say that UC stands for "Under Construction"... Clever, huh? 😉

most big name schools are always adding something. my school (pitt) is building a big new research center.

cornell's adding a huge flagship medical education/ambulatory care center that'll open in 2006. it's designed by the polshek partnership - same guys who did the rose planeterium at the museum of natural history and the newseum in DC.

Northwestern's adding new lecture halls and a brand spankin' new medical research building...

better question: which schools are NOT getting new buildings?

As I recall, OSU was building some new heart center for their hospital. BU also had a construction project, but I think that was just more housing (which for Boston would be almost as important for students as a new educational building 🙂 )

I saw the construction of the new educational building when I interviewed at Wash U. Also, they have wireless internet throughout the campus.

Yup. The Robert H. Laurie Comprehensive Cancer Care Center and Medical Research Center. It's right off Michigan Avenue, overlooking Lake Michigan and it's gonna be AWESOME!

On another note, Colorado just recently moved an entire part of its campus to another near-Denver location. Consequently, ALL those buildings are new and they are supposed to be phenomenal.

Creighton just completely renovated the medical school complex during this last year (in fact they're finishing up now, just in time for us M-1's!!), built a new science building, and renovated the old undergradate science building. All the labs are now either new, or renovated. I haven't seen the new gross anatomy lab yet but I hear it's really nice.

You guys are going to be lucky. From what I hear the labs are going to have flat screen TV's so you can watch Dr. Quinn do his prosection before lab starts. There is also suppose to be surgical lamps above each cadaver tank.

UCSF is opening up a new campus at Mission Bay.
That's a lot of buildings...

They're also building a brand new fitness center across the street from the college of medicine and the the new research building.
